Hello there, asalamalakum, my name is Belal and I am from Uttara, Dhaka.
I've been doing reviews mostly from Steem Gaming for a long time and
now I've decided to transition here instead. Hopefully you'll like
what I have to write about. If you do, please follow me for more publishing.

So where do I start with this game? Resident Evil Re:Verse was promoted first as an online multiplayer game based around the Resident Evil franchise with characters, villains and monsters from Resident Evil 7 to Resident Evil 2 & 3 Remake. Along with the upcoming Resident Evil Village.

There's no story relation to this game mode, unlike the Hunk time trial or the Resistance mode from RE:3R, this game is pure multiplayer. In fact, it is more nonsensical and abstract compared to the prior Resident Evil games released. You're only playing for a scoreboard, nothing else. I mean it is a demo, but it has given me no other impression other than the fact that it's a run and gun multiplayer mode that is very different from the mainline RE games and that there's nothing remotely in it even engaging.

You start by entering the lobby and look for a match online. Of course, they let you play a simple tutorial first before getting started. Soon as I was prepared for the matches, I was baffled by what I saw.

The aiming feels off, it's like I was supposed to move the gun, but it doesn't at times as it gets stuck for half a second. At least weapon hits register, but it doesn't intuitively feel like you're shooting an actual gun unlike the single-player counterparts.

Of course, when you die, you turn into a monster. This is like that Martyrdom perk from CoD except you turn into a goop of monstrosity with 2 abilities to use each. How is that fair somehow, when human characters can use 4 weapons, 2 of which are locked, and you can't change them for any of the characters you pick. This wasn't how it worked in Resistance, in fact Resistance was far more versatile with equipments, weapon sets, perks and so on. That game allowed you to pick and choose what you could deploy with while earning newer items as you progress. This game feels generic and very simplified compared to the aforementioned.

Monsters rank up based on the T-virus vial you pick up, the more you have, the stronger your monster is. Of course, dying also means they get spent, so you have to collect much as you find. This seems fun, but it is too simple and boring as you went further with it.

This isn't Resident Evil's first entry into being an online based game. Outbreak for the PS2 is considered a cult-hit, Resident Evil 5 campaign let you play co-op which was fine although a lot less scarier thanks to the company you keep. Operation Raccoon City is the inferior one but seemingly far superior to this. The only game that this is somewhat akin to is Umbrella Corps and um, I don't want to talk about that one honestly :(

I am going to be honest, I thought there were some potential within this, but it doesn't feel like a Resident Evil game at all later. More like just wearing the skin of it, only by skin deep was it an RE game but when it came to the rest, it was far from that. Re:Verse is, am going to be candid here, a cash-in. Nothing more.

A shell of what truly made an RE game. Like please, take some examples from other online survival games like Dying Light, Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor 2, and so on. This is a terrible disappointing and shouldn't even be touched with a 10-foot pole.

The beta I guess ended a few days ago, I've wanted to write this for awhile now but was caught up doing other errands. But thankfully during the time of writing this, Capcom has decided to do a second public beta testing on the next day, and you can get free access to it just by either downloading it from your PSN store or via Steam when its ready.

As for what content the beta provided, it was just one map and 5 human/monster characters. You had Leon, Claire, Chris, Hunk and Jill. Though it's odd that Ethan wasn't added since one of the monsters is from RE7, I guess it had to do with them keeping the 1:1 ratio.

Here's my spec for playing this:

Ryzen 5 1600 @3.2Ghz
16GB dual-kit 3200Mhz DDR4
RTX 2060 6G

When it came to performance, the game ran fine. However, I was having weird visual glitches like I was seeing purple grids around wall textures and character models. I didn't get why that was, of course could have been a driver issue, though that was the least problem among a list of it. I experienced crashes randomly, my game would hitch, got stuck on walls, sometimes hit registration wouldn't work and server problems. Though the server problems were less prominent here than from what I've heard about the servers in US region.

Lastly, overall I'd say give it a try when it's out but do please keep in mind, there's a far better alternative and that is Resistance from Resident Evil 3. Sadly, that'll cost you 20 USD in SEA wallet for Steam. Or, if you're set for Argentina wallet, you can buy it for 9 USD instead.

I just didn't really enjoy this one and am disappointed where Capcom is going with this. They are known for making great online games from Monster Hunter to Street Fighter and so on. I hope they learn from this and stop repeating their mistakes again and again.
