Can I get an explanation for “bison015”???

in #steemit10 years ago (edited)

"Bison015" seems to be a bot that almost always flags posts and then it has the chutzpah to post “Thanks for the post!!” or “Keep up the good work!”.

37 votes and not a penny? I can take my licks, but having a destructive bot detract points from my posts and cost me money is unsettling. Anyone have similar experiences? Any advice from experienced Steemers?

Here is a post where “bison015” appears. It is mostly whited out and you have to click on it to get it to “reveal” it’s comment:

If there was a complaint department, I would report “bison015”!

I agree with you. This @bison015 bot annoyed me a lot.

I upvoted your cogent comment. Sorry that I am only a lowly minnow, but the sentiment is there:)

I have seen his name everywhere, surely they can do something about him

same thing happened to me on my Vericoin post. it had me flagged within 10 seconds and commented

Thanks for caring. I upvoted your post, but since I'm a minnow you won't be able to bank it, but I sure do appreciate your response. We need people giving a damn around here.

"Msjennifer" makes my point! Flags me and states: "Nice post!" This is disgusting. Something needs to be done.

@bison015 most likely seems like a bot. People have been taking advantage of new tools created by steemit community such as @xeroc's piston to create bots of similar style. On the counter, people have also been using these useful development tools to add actual value and create spam prevention bots. That is why you see often that some of these bots get flagged right away as soon as they post. Looking at a #introduceyourself post is probably a good indicator of this.

There are tradeoffs between technological advancements and their negative aspects. Take the automobile for instance. A wonderful convenience and source of a multi-trillion dollar world economy, but tens of 1000s are killed in accidents every year and then there are the millions of people maimed, crippled and handicapped as the result of automobile accidents. We do take the good with the bad, but the bot problem around here needs to be addressed, so I posted. Thanks for adding your wisdom to my efforts:)

I agree. These bots definitely take away from the core goal of steemit which is to curate quality content. When email was in its early stages people were bombarded with spam, a prime example being the classic Nigerian prince story. Steemit is seeing a similar problem with spam bots. Until a proper filter is created to discourage the posting of such bots (which downvote bots are kind of doing), this problem will continue.

Thanks for an intelligent analysis.
