FLOW! THE KEY TO MOTIVATION
If we are working on a larger goal, it is quite useful if the work is not a torture, but fun and conveys a sense of satisfaction. But when is fun and when is it tormenting?
When we are subjected to a task, we get bored quickly and we lose our pleasure in it. But if a task is too difficult for our current knowledge and ability, then it frustrates us and even then we lose the pleasure.
If, however, we are working on something that does not sub- or surpass us, then what i call "flow" is created. This is a feeling in which we forget the time and everything around us and are completely lost in a task.
What is the conclusion? Quite simply, if a task is too simple and boring, then build up an additional difficulty, so the task becomes more challenging again. Or make a game out of it. Try to do it very quickly. Or try to increase your "output" in the task.
And if a task overpowers you, then lower your target bar a bit and make your task easier, so that it will not be overwhelmed and frustrated. Lower your expectations. Take a small part of the task. Or allow you to do the task badly first.
By adapting and changing your tasks, you can also improve your self-motivation.
What do you do for work and tasks that bored you and for which you do not want so? And how could you make these more sophisticated? How could you make a game out of it?
And what about difficult tasks? Is there something with you that you feel overwhelmed at the moment? And how can you simplify the goal behind this task? How can you prevent yourself from being overwhelmed?
Most of the larger and longer-term goals also include unpleasant tasks. And if you make these stupid tasks simpler or more difficult as a matter of course, increasing your motivation, you will achieve your bigger goals easier.
Maybe you can create the things that did not work out right before. Try it, is not it?
