Preparing for the next market cycle: My Altcoin shopping list for after the bear.

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

Today we’re looking at which altcoins are on my post-bear shopping list (I) and when I intend to buy them (II)

What to buy.

A bear market is a great opportunity to grab your favorite altcoins at discount price.

You want to buy into projects that are solid with strong developers and a solid community. I recommend you check this great video made by Dan at Crypto Portfolio which goes through a checklist of things to look for when looking to invest in a project.

As for my personal list:

  • Cofound.it: a future ICO platform built on Ethereum which offers pre-sales deals to CFI token holders.
  • Ethereum: who doesn’t know Ethereum?
  • Ubiq: an enterprise-ready Canadian version of Ethereum, what's not to like? The developer team is strong and the community manager, Alex Sterk, has strong connections to the private sector in Canada. This project might be the next Ethereum.
  • ...and maybe the Basic Attention Token: an ambitious project led by JavaScript’s inventor and Mozilla Firefox developer: Brendan Eich. Certainly ambitious, but the tokens are cheap and the project intrigues me.

When to buy.

A bear market offers great opportunity to scoop up your favorite altcoins for cheap, however buying too soon might result in an immediate loss in $ value. So when is the best time to buy?
When buying bled out altcoins I am looking for three things:

  • A reversal pattern:

A reversal pattern is when the price of a coin goes from a bearish channel, usually followed by a capitulation candle (depressed bagholders dump their bags, usually at bottom) then by a serie of higher lows on the chart. Here’s an example on CFI:

By buying a capitulation candle you increase your chances to buy at the bottom and to sell on the bounce if you’re looking for a quick day-trade. It is both a great day-trade and investment strategy and if you manage to buy at bottom you will feel like a rock star.

  • An accumulation pattern:

Again, my favorite time to buy coins, look for coins which price is flat and boring, particularly if they haven’t popped off billions of %. Buying smart is buying before the herd.

  • A decent price:

I like to buy things that are cheap and particularly when the price has fallen below ICO price. A great tool to compare current price to ICO price is ICO Stats. There you want to look at the ICO Price/Curr. Price column.

To conclude, I think the next few weeks will offer some GREAT opportunities to invest in the projects in which you believe in because everything is going to be so damn cheap, remember these words from Warren "Wise" Buffett:

Be greedy when people are fearful
and fearful when people are greedy.
