Trapping a mosquito while it drinks your blood

in #nature7 years ago

Perhaps you have heard of the method to kill mosquitoes, of either flexing your muscles while they are drinking from you, thus trapping their proboscis in your skin and allowing the blood pressure within your body to force the blood into the mosquito, or pulling the skin taut around the area that the mosquito is sucking and having the same result?

Sounds like a deal to me! You wanna steal my blood, take it then you swine!!

And I have indeed tried this(but it takes a while and you get tired pulling the skin or flexing), and though I have personally been unsuccessful, apparently there are people out there that have been more patient than I have, and killed them in this manner.

This was my experience trying it

They say it doesn't quite explode (which would be really cool), but rather ruptures and dies or just gets satiated and dies as well.

So they have had them rupture. They have had them get so full that they die. they have had them get so full that they roll off the body and splat as they hit the floor.
So it does work if you can get through the process.

Tell me if you've done it? How long did it take for you?

I'm not a fan of these buggers so this is in fact not a problem for me. I've often even wondered if it would be a large issue if these insects were altogether eradicated from the planet....I mean what is their purpose?
However looking into that it seems that they indeed do help other species by feeding them. Hmmmm....dangit!

Here's a cool video with people that were thinking along the same lines as I was:

I also found out that mosquitoes have a saliva that is injected into the victim of the sucking of blood, and this stops the blood from clogging, stops inflammation and allows the blood to flow uninhibited to the mosquito. It also causes you to itch!!

These swines attack my feet and leave their spit in them!!

Some interesting facts about why you are attacked and others aren't

  1. They are attracted to carbon dioxide that is exhausted as we breath. All of us exhale this, and this is what attracts them in the first place. Putting traps that have carbon dioxide coming from it is a sure way to draw them in
  2. They are then attracted to body parts that smell more....like feet and ankles. They are drawn to places that have a more distinct smell to them, or have more bacteria on them. However they also go for areas that are easier to get to the blood. Tough skin areas are clearly not where they will bite
  3. Blood type. Mosquitoes are more attracted to blood type O. They are least attracted to Type A
  4. Heat. They are attracted to heat, and once close enough to you (via the Carbon dioxide trail, they will follow the heat source to the good 'ol blood
  5. Some tests even showed that they are more attracted to beer drinkers! Yup, they tended to go to the drinkers of beer for some unknown reason. It may be certain chemicals? In fact they may think estrogen is something that attracts the female mozzies to the ladies, and why they are bitten more too. Strange creatures these aren't they?
  6. Dark clothing makes you more visible to them too....like what?!?!

Fact is these little buggers enjoy riding their offroad bikes while were trying to sleep. All you hear is them vroeming all over the bedroom at hours when we should be sleeping, and this drives me nuts!

Till a time when we can properly get these bugs to bug off and leave us alone, i will be blackening their names via the social networks, and letting people just how bad they are as neighbors.

Keep well all

Any insect that comes near me will be warned - with a telepathic message - "Come near me and you will be smacked and squashed." And if they want to try their luck, that's usually how the ended up - squashed. :-)

I suppose all creatures big and small are alive for a reason.

LOL!! Yes that is how I feel too!
Come in my space and be warned....

haha! howdy sir towjam! man everyone hates those things! Very interesting research though. They're even attracted to different blood types, they're picky! That is very surprising.

Yes, that was quite interesting to me. The pooooor feet with all the mozzies on them made me cringe!!! I cant stand them on me sucking away!!
Thankfully Im not a major attraction for them

Howdy sir towjam! you must not measure up, you're the wrong blood type! amazing. At our place we've been shocked since we got here that there are almost no mosquitos even though we have a pond about a hundred feet from the house. we're thankful though!

Oh you lucky man!!!
We water our plants daily and that leaves a puddle of water on the tarps we have nearby...they breed like rabbits and feed like mice these things!!

wow, that is not good and they're probably the big ones that you guys have down there!

But there are supposed to be alot of natural devices and things that keep them away right?

I must be doomed to attract these little guys, found sleeping with a fan on helps.

When awake it is warfare, no love lost in swatting them, better before they get my blood!

Thanks for the fun content @towjam #teamsouthafrica

Oh man, my poor wife and kids...they get it the worst!
Now were prepping the house with mozzie shields to keep them out....otherwise I will be klapped for zapping them at night when everyone sleeps :)
Keep well

Mozzie shields over windows don't work at the coast with monkeys breaking them to get into the house. Find spraying ankles easier with mozzie spray....

NO!! Youre kidding me? Damn those blimmin stoutgatte!
My aunt in Salt Rock says they can be quite a pest....you cant leave anything just lying around as they are quite cheeky.
Buggers....lol

I have type O blood and i drink beer. . Im screwed ;p

Sorry bud, but youre just bait walking around :)
