the last home on earth
asked me to leave
said i was being mean to
all the other girls and boys
wanted me to be more like
someone else
who knew better -

"does not play well with others"
the report card said
"violent antisocial tendencies"
funny the things you
pick up at home

well i never could tell
mustard from relish
ever since that day in K1 when
george s. called me a bitch
then pulled my pigtails

life became school
a never fitting in
a fight to belong
i want to disappear into
hide away worlds
rewrite
all i never
meant to say
or do

so if i am a little mean
its because when i
get a tiny taste of relish
i call it mustard -
i get them confused
