WELCOME TO SERBIAN SLAVA

  Hello Steemians, 

Now I will show you the atmosphere on my Slava.   

The Slava ( Serbian: slava) is an Orthodox tradition that takes place in Serbia. The Slava is the only tradition that Serbia has protected by the UNESCO. The Slava is an annual ceremony where the family gathers and celebrates its protector. Also, family and friends come to the Slava of one family. So it's an opportunity for everyone to gather and enjoy in a nice atmosphere. Friends and relatives who celebrate the same Slava do not come. The family saint is inherited from the patriarch (head of the household) – from father to son, while women do inherit the patron saint of their husbands upon leaving their families.  Apart from Serbs, the custom is also practiced by some Orthodox Macedonian families. The Slava is the most important feast day for Serbs. The Slava is celebrated with friends and food in honor of a certain saint. The ritual foods that are prepared for the feast are the slavski kolač (a type of bread that has an important role in the celebration of the Slava), žito (cooked wheat sweetened with walnuts and dry grapes). Next, to slavski kolač and žito, Slavic candle is lit up. When the guests arrive, the host gives them first the grain, the wine, and the cake.  Now I will show you the atmosphere from my Slava(St. Archangel):

  Apart from these main items, the guests are served with a variety of foods.
