Business Competition Gone Horribly Wrong?
Let me ask you something.
You ever had that moment where you stacked up a major Win in life...
And when you were trying to tell your friend, you get a reaction that you didn't expect?
They seem happy for you...
But when you look closer, they are thinking about something else.
What is it they are thinking about? you wonder.
And as the thinking stops, rather than asking you for more details about your win, they do the exact opposite.
They somehow manage to make the convo about them self!
They talk about one of their recent wins as well.
And they begin telling you a story about it.
You are a lil upset that you guys didn't discuss your win longer, but you brush it off as 'competitive spirit' from their end.
I hate people like that. Annoying as hell.
And I used to deal with a person like that when I was first starting a Shopify business a few years ago.
My friend Mike told me about Shopify & gave me some insights into how the business model works.
And he threw a few videos for me to check out to get more understanding of the business.
That's it.
For the next few months, I watched, created a store, found the hot product, got it set up, built an Instagram page for traffic, got blog articles written & much more!
I did all that on my own.
3 months since I had that introductory Shopify meeting with Mike.
When I make my first sale, I decide to give Mike a call to let him know about the progress since our initial talk.
He gives me a look of pride & says congrats.
2 weeks in, my friends are telling me that Mike is telling everyone he's the only reason I made money off the business.
The look of pride he had wasn't because I won. But rather it was because he thought HE was the reason I won.
He completely undermined my work.
Tsk tsk.
This may not seem like direct competing to you, but it is indirect.
In his mind, he sees me winning.
Rather than give me props, he wants to find a way to take credit for it.
These sort of people have scarcity mindset.
I've worked with a lot of people in the business world and I want to tell ya something.
You don't want scarcity minded people in your squad.
These people aren't looking out for your best interests.
They are looking out for their best interests.
If you win, great. But that's only an afterthought to their own Wins.
I wrote a tweet recently about how I invest in my homies.
When they win, I win & when I win, they win.
That's how I like to filter my squad nowadays.
This filtration system alone filters out A LOT of people.
You'll be surprised by how many people have a scarcity mindset towards winning nowadays.
They think there aren't too many opportunities out there.
So they get defensive when a friend wins, because they feel like they just lost an opportunity.
It's all about investing in the right squad.
But in order to do that, you need to do something uncomfortable.
'Like?'
You need to assess who you are.
Not going to lie, when I was doing the dropshipping store, I had a scarcity mindset myself.
I was the guy who was always hoarding info, lowkey felt jealousy when I saw someone doing better & felt like opportunities were very rare.
That's why I went onto attract the Mike's of the world.
I believe in the Law of Attraction. Definitely do believe that you attract the energy you put out their.
So I went on a journey to level up & change my character as a whole.
After transforming myself for the last few years, I realized that the tribe you manifest is a projection of your subconscious mind & your awareness to your subconscious mind.
Are you always competing with your squad?
Is your squad always competing with you?
Well in both instances, it is your fault.
Not fair, but true.
Distance from that squad.
Now fall back & work on yourself.
Next, build one social asset at a time to build strong bonds.
Once you built 5 strong bonds with stand up people, then introduce them to each other in a group chat.
That's your new tribe.
Help each other level up.
Have each others backs & celebrates each others wins.
That's how the invisible glue strengthens & the power of the tribe only compounds over time.
