Dicovering something new!

What's the first punk rock you ever heard and when? For me it was the end of 1984, and i was handed three tapes by a friend. There was Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks, the soundtrack for The Decline Of Western Civilization, and the one i listened to first Plasmatics-Coup d' Etat.

I knew nothing about punk, but i'd heard of the Plasmatics. How could you not? They had been around since 1977 and singer Wendy O. Williams was all about shock value. Her antics were always outraging the music industry and being reported on by the media. Chainsawing guitars and blowing up cars on stage. Performing while wearing a bikini bottom, whip cream and electrical tape. Simulating sex with a sledge hammer. These were just some of the controversial things Wendy O. regularly egaged in.

Musically, Plasmatics weren't to dissimilar to what i was currently into, which was speed/thrash metal. This was a new genre and still hated, almost as much as punk itself. So while it wasn't quite as fast as i hoped, it was fronted by the craziest vocals i'd ever heard. And coming from a woman at that!!! It was amazing.
