How to Excel in Excellence - A Guide to Excellence
Excellence is a way of life. It is not some elusive goal that some acquire and others achieve. To achieve excellence one must first accept the fact that they were born with it.
The individuals that you see around you that have achieved excellence and greatness were never born that way. They were molded by their parents and throughout their lives they were nourished and fed the messages they were given throughout their youth. However, only through determination and hard work did they eventually transform those messages into behaviors and habits that would later become a way of life. For some it may be a simple as the conclusion to a chain or the completion of an assignment or the determination of a goal.
Excellence is never an elusive goal. You can make it your goal. There are numerous examples of individuals who in their pursuit of excellence found themselves on a treadmill that got them to a certain point. But what came of it? In many cases the individual gave up.
Do you give up on reaching your goals? Do you ever wonder how something can be your goal, but you still don't have any idea how to get there? If this sounds like you, do not worry. There is no reason for you to. Excellence is not an elusive goal, but something that is attainable if you choose to.
Excellence is a conscious decision. Yes, there are some things in life that are handed down or are given as favors. These include things such as degrees, awards, prizes, titles, and other rewards we receive for achieving excellence in our chosen fields. However, excellence must begin within you first.
Excellence is not something that happens overnight. It is not a "gift." You cannot buy excellence. It is not even something that can be acquired through a "paycheck."
You must first define what excellence is to you. Ask yourself, what have I done or what have I achieved that others are envious of? Then take action to bring it into your life. Action can be anything from making a commitment, to working with a coach, to reading a book, to attending seminars, to traveling, to volunteering, to writing, to networking, to attending workshops. Action speaks louder than words ever could.
Excellence is about you. It is about the way you want to live. Excellence is not something that you acquire through a process. It is something that you choose to acquire by allowing yourself to experience excellence in your daily life and work.
What do you like to do? Do you love to travel? Are you seeking out opportunities to help others? If so, you should pursue that opportunity. If not, maybe you can start developing skills in that area or get coaching to help you develop those skills.
Are you a giver or a taker? Do you give before you receive? Do you find it easy to give and find it difficult to receive? If you are a taker, perhaps you can receive more of what you give. If you are a giver, perhaps your giving will be noticed more and you will be admired more and you will be able to receive more as well.
What things do you want to improve about yourself? Are you tired of feeling unappreciated? Do you want to be more effective and do more for others? If you spend some time doing these things, it could lead to a situation where you can look at others as others, and you can view them as worthy of esteem.
What things do you need to improve about yourself? Do you need to learn a new hobby or skill? Are you sick of always being asked the same question? Do you need to improve on your conversational and writing skills? Are you wondering if you are presenting yourself in the best possible manner?
Excellence is seeing things that others can't see. Excellence is knowing how to work with others while appreciating the results. Excellence is knowing how to be passionate about something while enjoying doing it. Excellence knows the value of a dollar and knowing that others will pay attention to this value. Most of all, excellence is seeing and living this value.
