[My work] the XXL collages - creative process
Studies made me realise how much I like do collages. We used to make them from time to time for classes using magazines and photos. However on painting class I started my new era of collagemaking - I made a big collage made from my paintings only.
The creative process
Before we got the collage assignment we had no idea that we're going to use our works to make them. We used almost every painting that we made in the first part of the semester. The first exercise was a process of making an abstract b&w composition. We started on small formats and we made 32 little paintings. The next step was to make a copy, but in negative. Then we chosed few most interesting pairs, copied it on a machine and added another layer.
From them we made out first collages, which later we painted on bigger format (A0).
Then we have few one-day assignments - a portret of an alufoil (albo b&w) and painting to music. As a home assignment we made few papers only filled with gradients - colours gradually becoming darker or changing into another colours.
I was suprised that we are going to use our works to make the collages but I liked the idea very much, I think we shouldn't get attached to our work and be able to go forward and try something new. It was a very inspiring idea and I enjoyed making the collages very much. I also used them outside of the painting class as an environment for my intermedia performance, where I also made a collage dress :)
Woooow so cool!
