India
Hello Everyone,
My name is Kaushal Patel, and I am Indian born and Raised and currently living in USA. Here is USA, I been asked lot of questions about India from so many people, and found out that People has lot of misconceptions about India, so thought of starting a blog where I will take one area or question related to India and try to answer it from my knowledge, (Pardon my English writing since it is my secondary language so I might make some grammar mistakes), So lets start with Today's mostly asked question,
How many languages are spoken in India? How can you communicate with each other? How difficult is it for foreigners to travel due to language issue?
As of Today, India has 22 official languages. According to Census of India, the total number of mother tongues spoken in India is 1652. However, only around 150 languages have a sizable speaking population. The Indian census of 1961 recognised 1,652 different languages in India (including languages not native to the subcontinent).
Hindi is a official national language and English is also mostly spoken and understandable language. So by communicating in Hindi, People of different states in India are doing their business.
For foreigner who doesn't know Hindi, they should higher a local guide or use the sign language, Now a days English language is mostly understandable, it would be hard for Indian people to reply back in English but mostly they will understand what you are trying to say them in English and your hand and face expression.
