I am Nigeria by Irene Ikie
I am Nigeria. Nigeria is me. And I am she.
With an Elegant Northern look…
Bronze skinned, well sculptured slightly pointed nose
Slender, homely, respectful and intelligent
Irene Ikie (author, reciting I am Nigeria at HarvestHouse Christian Centre)
I am Nigeria
A Western origin beauty that leaves more to the imagination of the beholder than anyone could possibly imagine…
I am Nigeria
A delicate Southern feel of beauty; deep brown eyes hiding a mixture of secret pains of the past, an excitement of a beautifully coloured future and a determined propelling force to make the present better in spite and regardless of the obvious holdups, setbacks and delays…
I am Nigeria
A fearless confident Niger-deltan beauty, sweet and fierce, protective and relaxed, serene and alert, hair, dark, long, full and silky to the touch…
I am Nigeria
And with an eastern stride I strive continually to achieve prosperity…
Resilient, I don't stop until I'm done. Enterprising in all my ways, I'm proactive, determined&adaptably, I may bend to challenges...but I never break. Loyalty is my middle name.
I am Nigeria
…It’s hard to place me into a particular region…but in my differences lie my strength.
Irene Ikie (author, reciting I am Nigeria at HarvestHouse Christian Centre)
I am Nigeria, Nigeria is me and I am she.
Who,what and how I choose to be,do and act respectively, is a reflection of the picture I've painted of her, for others to see.
Nigeria gets her identity from me
I decide Nigeria's reality
I am Nigeria.
Nigeria is me and I am she.
Though not my past,
I date far back as the 5th century BC
With cultures speaking way over 150 languages
My people favour agriculture, commerce and the small and large scale industry
I have the highest population in Africa with the largest economy in the said continent
Though slowly attaining a stable economy… in the forward direction, I am moving…a lil step everyday…but a step forward nonetheless in my own little way.
It makes no difference where I am coming from…; It matters most where I am Headed to.
I have the most potential to be the first African great power
Well-endowed with nature’s resources…, My trees bring health to the sick and
Oil seeps from the fruits at its tip
Within my bare hills you find precious stones - gold, Sapphires, Amethysts, and Rubies-
My Lands are reservoirs of oil and gas ; Limestone, Coal, Marble and Sand…like Glass
Out of my hills you dig copper; and Iron-ore to all, I also offer
Rich is an understatement
If i were to describe the cultures of my people
The deep expression leaves me out of speech -the right set of words so close yet so far out of reach.
I am Nigeria.
I have a reputation for being known as one of the super-powers in the continent of Africa
I possess one of the top 3 powerful military forces therein
And I play a fatherly role in African politics, providing economic support and peacekeeping assistance when and where necessary…
There is more to me than meets the eye
There are more pleasant tales than the sad challenges…
The challenge is: we keep accessorising the glitch in the hitch
Seeking to change the system
when we make up the system
I am Nigeria And I bear on my face a scar of honour self-inflicted from fighting for my own
Defending the cause of my people
Nurturing the young…mourning the lost…
I am not there yet-
But I will regain and exceed the status I was purposed to achieve when I was created.
Are you Nigeria? Is Nigeria you? Then join me and together, let us make Nigeria happen to the world.
I AM NIGERIA! Nigeria is me. And I am she.
Watch me happen to the world.
