Alright, I get it, Stop - Using - Bidbots

in #steemit5 years ago

So this is a post to let everyone know that I will refrain from using Bidbots

My posts got downvoted to hell on which I used some bidbots and I guess even the last person using bidbots to promote their posts has gotten into touch with the @trafalgar @ocd @callmedan etc. gang ;)

I still don't think that using bidbots for a couple of steem is necessarily a bad thing. Especially with the reward curve being changed, low post payouts will suffer much more in #newsteem. So I always thought that it was okay to upvote my posts a bit, but I respect that the community (meaning largely the most powerful stakeholders in Steem) want to change this.

Of course as steem being a decentralized platform (there are some arguments that it isn't), the community has to decide on what is seen as a legitimate practice. Sometimes I have the feeling that this process should be more transparent. For example, it would be useful if there was somewhere a list of rules on which should be followed. These rules would be voted on by the community ( a caveat being of course, that people with the most SP would have the most influence on which rules should be enacted, but perhaps that could be evened out?). So right now we have an interesting social experiment to see how a community engages with all of these problems to eventually (and perhaps not) reach an equilibrium...

With the lack of bidbots, organic curation can't be a bad thing, and in fact it is how steemit should optimally work (at least I think most people would agree on this). But this makes manual curation by the big fish all the more important, otherwise the rewards won't get distributed to a larger audience. This is why I like the idea of @tipu to let the community manually curate posts. It's unclear if this will be a model for other whales, we'll just have to wait and see...

So what can we do without bidbots? Of course the answer is to manually curate... But I think we should also be using services like @steemvoter or @steemauto to automate the process here. Unless you have a lot of time on your hands it is simply impossible to vote for your favorite authors and constantly browse thorugh /created. I think a lot of people on steemit don't realize that rewards come from automatic votes, i.e. following a curationtrail or being the receiver of such a trail. This is, in my opinion how most rewards are being distributed. Of course, there is the occasional upvote from @ocd or @curie, but you can't really count on those votes...

Let me know what you think about this! I would be happy for any replies 😊

I'm glad that you talk about it.
I'm find the steem event to flag bitbot abuse as my comment said.
It's only a my test and downvote 2% only for summons.

but , i find the downvote always done by multi-standard.

so , i have no idea that buy upvote is good or not.
but, i think there maybe a only one standard.

i support you talk about it with the community

i have cancel all my downvote on your post since you begin talk about the bitbot abuse
and upvote your this post.
@tobetada

thanks about your openness and support

but you're still farming votes (self-voting) with your 30+ zombie accounts, so I'm flagging for collusive voting

and how about your self-voting abuse with 30+ zombie accounts under every even most trivial comment of yours?

To be honest, I never use bidbots but sometimes I think it is needed to spread words to the crowd.

right... so there should be a way to promote posts; as far as I know this doesn't work currently so well? Actually, I have never used the official promotion service...

Resteems do that too.

@ocdb you are enjoying free steem power and withdrawing it daily and downvoting those who invest for steem what did you invested in steem ?

your vote farming (self-voting) with 30+ zombie accounts has no future

You're churning out content (often low quality), in quick successions with abnormal number and/or upvote size.

You mention the usage of bid bots to beat the curve but you forget that by you using them you are pushing everyone not using them further down the curve while that bid bot now doesn't feel the need to curate after it sold a vote. Not to mention these bots will also attempt to curate a post past the curve as that means they'll receive higher curation because of it too.

alright that's a good point. Thanks, for pointing it out! Definitely interesting to watch how all of this is evolving. I really feel steemit is more like a social experiment, making us aware of our behavior and how we can change it.

Actually, I am saying this in sense of few informations and contest that essentially need popularity.

I think you can use the official promotion service? But like I said, I have never used it and I think it might be changing in a future HF too

If you want to promote something it should cost, since bid bot owners don't sell promotion at a cost you can do so by sending part of the beneficiaries to @null or @steem.dao when purchasing votes. (also mention that in the post so people don't miss it when they decide to downvote based on you using bid bots, no guarantees that they won't either way, though)

okay, thanks for the input
