The World of XPILAR - B&W PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART CONTEST WEEK #112
Petroleum lamps are still made today and their light shone on our ancestors. Until there was no electricity it was used to illuminate city streets only in a slightly different form.
Especially in rural areas and islands where electricity came much later than in cities.
It was a transition in innovation, various animal and vegetable fats in some improvised lamps made of hollow stone or clay ceased to be used. In the middle of the 17th century, this fuel (kerosene) lamp was invented and used as a portable and as a freestanding one with a mirror on the side.
I have a few in my collection, I guess like many on the island.
... thank you ...
nice photos
they look like they carry a lot of stories
There are certainly a lot of good stories that happened under the light of these lamps. Thanks!
Estás lámparas eran el delirio de mi papá cuando teníamos que ir al campo, incluso en mi país se utilizan algunas parecidas por el problema de electricidad.
Buenas fotografías 😊
Saludos.
Definitivamente un invento revolucionario. Muchísimas gracias!
