AGAPE LOVE

John 21:17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

There are types of love such as Eros (romantic) and Phileo (friendly). But what Jesus demonstrated and left us as an example is the AGAPE (supreme or perfect) love and this is the measuring rod for every Christian, especially, in these COVID-19 times of paucity of resources!

John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life

In the text above, Peter, who had fallen short of this love by earlier denying Jesus on three different occasions (Matthew 26:31-35; Mark 14:29) was restored by Jesus who made him to confess his love for Him thrice in the presence of the other Apostles. How many times have you also denied Him and how many times have you not loved as He did? His love and mercy as David found out are evermore and cannot be fathomed (Ps 103: 11-12). He is ready to forgive and restore you today.

What confession of love, backed by actions, do you need to undertake? In the Greek text, Jesus uses AGAPE (PERFECT) love in teaching us the type of love His followers ought to have and show in order to effectively feed the lambs (new converts), the little sheep and the sheep (matured Christians). How are you faring my Heartchurch brothers, Priest, Mr Warden, Md. Evangelist and Sis. ‘ ARM-CHAIR’ Christian in this direction? Paul was in a lockdown ( under arrest in Caesarea) awaiting trial and perhaps even death. Yet, he was not perturbed, gave no excuses but was ever ready to share and demonstrate PERFECT LOVE for the cause of the Gospel. This was what Jesus was teaching Peter- LOVE, AGAPE and not PHILEO! This is what will make us worthy of His Kingdom; restore broken marriages; patch up friendships; unite church members; urgently move us in winning the lost at all cost and fulfilling our various ministries.

Soberly reflect on this, empty yourself and with a broken heart like Peter, acknowledge your fall. He will restore you for Pentecost to begin a revival that will fill the pews and store up treasures untold for you in heaven. May God bless and keep you. LET AGAPE LOVE LEAD!!!
