A Proposal For Image Compression Algorithm To Solve Data Issues in Africa
Steemit is by far a lovely community but there are some small fixes to do. Browsing pages on steemit drains a lot of internet data due to the fact that many articles contains lots of images which are really large. This tends to create trouble for individuals in developing countries where data charges are too costly and there are no unlimited data plans. Most social media sites have adapted some compression algorithm which actually saves data usage. I think its high time steemit started working on an algorithm to compress all the images uploaded to help many more people gain access to the website. Whatsapp for instance compresses images yet the image quality is good.

This particular image has been compressed to 35kb.
Another alternative to solving the data issue is to regulate image download. Users should be able to choose to browse a picture or not. These problems have actually prevented many from coming onto steemit. Mostly people in the Africa zone where data charges cost too much.

We could solve this problem by either creating a compression algorithm or introduce manual image loading on the platform. This is a humble suggestion to the blockchain developers.

This is a major challenge to some of us who don't have enough data to browse steemit but choose to face the music anyways. I just hope some whales see this post and try to help us . Good post.

AWESOME MAN first time i saw a video of you man! Good job, good idea, i was thinking we need some LOWER image sies I BET you anything @inertia will help us find a simple simple simple solution for smaller image compression for africans with lower data abilities... lower bandwitdh they need some way to upload smaller images automatically AND to view smalle image sizes, maybe some sort of .. well.. i guess i can think of a cuystom busy.org
