Windows 10 S: What's New?

Introduction

Microsoft debuted the new Windows 10's platform along with the surface laptop and now that loafer eyes windows 10's laptops are making their way to the market. We have been thinking where the window status version stands against the windows 10 and pro edition. The good news has we recently installed windows 10 s on our laptop and we are here to tell you what's different and all the changes. Now that I have cleared that out let's get started.

• What is Windows 10S - First, let me tell you what Windows 10S is. According to Microsoft Windows, 10 S is a platform streamlined for simplicity speed and security. It's aimed at students teachers and for use at educational streets also with Windows 10S, Microsoft is taking on Google's Chrome OS which is decently popular in countries like the U.S. Thanks to the budget Chromebooks in an office. Now that you have an idea about Windows 10 S let's talk about the changes it brings when compared to windows 10.

  

• Only Windows Store Apps - The Biggest change in windows 10S is the fact that you can only install apps from the windows. You heard that right you cannot install desktop programs on winnows 10S. When you try to install a desktop program like Chrome on windows 10S you get a message saying this mode of windows only runs verified apps from the store. Now that's a great solution well not really no allowing installation of apps from other sources will definitely improve the overall security of the system plus apps updates will manage more efficiently. However most of the popular desktop program like Chrome, Photoshop etc. aren't available from the Windows Store. Plus the limitation can also result in incompatibility with some drivers. Since they rely on the installation of third-party programs. For example, we cannot even install AMD's control centers or NVidia's GeForce experience software. If you're thinking you can go through registry editor and manage a workaround, let me tell you registry editor and even command prompt cannot be launched. The windows store has more than 7000000 apps but the problem here is not the quantity but the quality. There are a number of bloated and useless apps on the Windows Store. With the limitation of only installing windows store apps certainly limits the windows 10s operation system.

  

• Fixed Default Browser - As you might have guessed Microsoft edge is the default browser in windows 10s. Well, the edge is a decent browser most of us use chrome or Firefox as default browsers and this is where things go bad in windows 10s.You guessed right there is no way to change the default browser. Here in the windows settings page, you can change the default email app, video player, music player, photo viewer, etc. but you cannot change the default browser. now that's another limitation that I don't like. users can install any browser as long as it's available in the windows store. chrome isn't by the way but the default browser will remain Microsoft edge.

  

• Bing Everywhere - If you start that with the end of windows 10 essence limitation well think again. Microsoft is not only forcing the edge browser and the windows store apps, it is also forcing bing on its users. I'm talking about the fact that you cannot change the search engine on the edge from Bing to Google or anything else. it's even more disappointing considering the fact that Microsoft lets users change the default search engine in edge in windows 10 pro and homes now. We all know that bing is really lacking when compared to Google. which makes the experience on edge even worse. you can always go to Google.com and search for things but that's not really convenient is it?

  

• Better Performance, Batter, and Security - Windows 10s has its flaws, but there are some positives too. Microsoft from great performance even in low-end hardware with windows 10s and in my brief time with windows 10s, I found if a promise holds true. along with great performance, the lightweight nature of the os also means great battery life. according to Microsoft surface laptop running 10s is faster than a 13-inch MacBook air and has a battery that will last 14 hours on continuous video playback. Now, this is seriously impressive. considering the surface laptop packs in a full Hd touchscreen display, unlike the MacBook Air. on my modest HP laptop, I usually get around three to four hours of battery life. but with window s10s the laptop lasts for around 5-6 hours. moreover, windows 10 has brigs great security as you can only install windows store apps which are checked by Microsoft. and also due to the fact that windows defender has grown on to become a decent security service. it looks modern and works very well.
