On certain overcast days I see you there in the courtyard as I take the shortcut down
The alley from Whittier Avenue, hoping to reach the front door without having to extend
My umbrella or hasten my steps until they commit themselves to a sprint for the eaves.
In secret, I sometimes call you the Rain Painter, wondering what mysteries you are
Coloring onto your easel under somber clouds that so wish to expel their borrowed tears.
No one ever stops to speak to you, and the breath that hangs inside me when I note the
Lonesome expression you wear evolves into a smothered sob before I turn and walk away.
Counting the blackbirds as they light in the lower branches of a maple, I focus on their
Numbers in order to dismiss any remnant of regret and to equip my mind with triviality.
Caught somewhere between the chirping and the essence of the approaching west wind,
I am sure I hear my name sounding in rich, earthy tones; perhaps my reasoning is tired.
Frigid drops from above wake me from peculiar notions; and I pivot to glance once more
In your direction only to find myself staring up into eyes as gray as the blanketed April sky.

well, there you have it - the prosaic line turned poetic. Usually such longer lines like fourteeners or longer are typical of didactic poetry such as was written in the 16th or 17th century, mostly for political purposes, but certainly not as a lyrical love poem full of wistful touches. This is really good, Tina. You are really talented and sensitive. You have a beautiful soul. Good work!
You are too kind. Thank you so much :)
I just read this aloud a couple of times. I love your use of punctuation. You could have totally overpunctuated but you didnt. The flow is just lovely and paints 'an impression' not just a story. Thank you xx
I appreciate you reading this and for your kind words! :)
One of the coolest thing I read today .. Thank you for these words
Thank you so much! :)
Your writing is so poetic that I find it difficult to comment on. There are so many great aspects.
I don't know the exact quote, or who said it, but it was something to the effect of: "A poet isn't a person who says new things, they are a people that express ideas in ways they have never been expressed before."
That's what comes to mind as I read this. I really enjoyed it.
That means a lot to me @moeknows ... thank you so much :)

STOPI went outside and walked in the rain yesterday and today. It's so grounding. :)
I agree. Like it washes everything away... :)
