Etherium - Metropolis Update & Free OMG Coin

Just like with Bitcoin, a lot is happening in the world of Ethereum lately. The Metropolis update is going to be released soon, and the OMG-team decided to air-drop their OMG coin to all ether holding investors.

The Metropolis Update

Just in the last days the development team behind Ethereum announced their plans to launch the Byzantium' testnet on September 18th, taking the next step to the actual launch of the Metropolis Fork in early October. Obviously, this depends heavily on the successful test-period, which is scheduled to last between 3-4 weeks.

The Metropolis Update promises to improve upon some of the core elements of Ethereum ;

Higher level of Anonymity (Zero Knowledge Proof - Co-op with Zcash)
Easier Programming (Simplified Ethereum Protocol)
Smart Contract support (Settle fees autonomously)
Masking (Identify address of private key - Quantum Computing Security)

The impacts of this update on the price of Ethereum are of cource unknown, but it seems unlikely that all these improvements will cause the price to drop. The price of Ethereum has been slowly increasing in the last couple of months, and i see this continuing in the future. For now, i will hold on to my ETH.

OMG Coin Air-drop

The company behind OMG ; OmiseGO said it will distribute their OMG tokens to holders of Ethereum addresses containing over .1 Ether. This news broke on august 7th, and i've been following the updates since. The founders of OMG explained, that in their own words ; They wanted to give back to the community, and saw that both technical barriers and restrictions of time for research, prohibits certain individuals from investing early in these opportunities. So they decided to air-drop 5% of total OMG directly to all ethereum wallets. The amount you receive depends on your holdings in ETH.

I personally think that they saw what happened to Bitcoin Cash, and how it can really help to just give everybody some coins. I highly doubt that Bitcoin Cash would have seen the relative success they had, without them "giving" it to all Bitcoin holders.
