Being a car guy today is difficult.

I will always be a car guy, but it seems that each year there are less and less cars that grab my attention and I wasn't quite sure why that was, until I took a closer look. The cars today are beautiful, but something is missing, the soul has been replaced by numerous cameras, lane departure warnings, and adaptive cruise control. I get it, technology is a great thing, but why is it if I want a stick shift I have to order it? I am a purist, I love being in control when I am behind the wheel, I don't want a computer deciding if I am going too far left, or right, or what gear I should be in. Cars should be mechanical, the feel of the clutch as you press it to shift gears followed by the clunk the gearbox makes as you do, the sound of the engine, the feel of the wheel as you take a corner. One of the first things I drove was a 66 ford truck, was it as comfortable as today's cars, no, but the feel of the manual steering, the heavy clutch, to me made it enjoyable, I felt like I was the one in control. There are new cars that I absolutely love, like the Power Wagon and the Raptor, but beyond those 2, there isn't much else. I drive for enjoyment, not as a means of getting from a to b, I want something to focus on, something that will help me clear my head. To me a car should be simple and honestly the recipe for a great car is easy, give it a great sounding engine, sexy lines, a manual transmission, and a stereo, or at least that's what my perfect car would consist of.
