¿THE BEST BEAT’EM UP OF ALL TIME? HELL, OF COURSE YES!

¿Is this a forgotten game? The debate is eaten by others, because the game is a magnificent tribute to a whole glory of the arcades and the saga/franchise that gave rise, but also, a javelin thrown forward; a multiple remake-tribute <because I can't find another way to define it> that also knows how to feel fresh and new in its same saga.

And now what you don't know about the game (which is not little)

Double Dragon was born in 1987, in arcades, launched by the Technos company as a natural evolution..... and international facelift as well, from its previous game Nekketsu Koa Kunio-Kun (Renegade for friends), giving rise to a game as good as novel, with its continuous scroll system, its two cooperative players, its graphics for the time, or its varied cast of movements. A true gem of arcades, and the beginning of a franchise that is sometimes wonderful, sometimes horrible, according to the titles that make it up. And also important: the legend of the brothers.

Double Dragon Advance begins with the tributes on its cover, with Billy and Jimmy Lee arranged as one of the most iconic and classic images of martial arts films: Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in "The Furor of the Dragon."

This promises. Well, the story begins with fight scenes.

(¿WHAT?) Calm down to tell us about that post-apocalyptic world full of gangs, where Marian is kidnapped so that the Lee brothers reveal the secrets of the Sou-Setsu-Ken, to start as we started in 1987.

fearlessly attending the kidnapping of Marian after taking the poor a well given host, to immediately leave our garage, in that first mythological phase in the history of the video game.

The impression can not be better, the appearance is excellent, there are obvious improvements such as the redrawing of some sprites as the protagonists, more animation frames, more enemies on screen and without the annoying slowdowns of the original arcade. It is not a milestone either, those of us who know the Game Boy Advance know that this 32-bit laptop could handle this and more. But it is when we put ourselves at the controls of the Lee brothers where we start to freak out in different colors and aspects.

We see that the protagonists can run, duck, head butt... a huge number of different movements, a sort of compilation and mix of the first two Double Dragon of recreational and NES, or the Super Double Dragon of Super Nintendo.

Hey, and since we talked about the first NES game, ¿will the ability to burst enemies lying on the ground be there? ¡THERE IT IS! Come on, if you can grab and lock Linda and Abobo too! Mmmmmm.

The nudge and swirl are not as definitive as they were in the games of yesteryear, I will have to be more varied and creative in my movements, I see that I even have the option of covering myself as in the SNES game but without the pain of having to Neither am I covering myself every two by three, nor do I have to continually break the happy guard of the enemies. With the generous number of them on the screen, all I had to do was get stuck with a cocoon that doesn't stop covering itself. This is cool! TAKE JUMP WITH KNEE! Like the NES Double Dragon II, hey.

From there the thing only goes up whole, we pass to the second level, the factory, again seeing how the stage, moving through it and its traps, are also of great importance, and more with the more agile control of our dragons when moving and jump.

¡Take it now! Guys in suits in a filthy warehouse, taken out of the SNES game, and how the damned spank huh? Doesn't the phase end with the fight against Jeff? Shall I go down the elevator? More suits and street ladies And the boss is the first of the Double Dragon II! The sucker is dematerialized and materializes again as he remembered, but look, I can also make keys to this one.

The third phase begins on a street full of dojos and oriental decoration. Hey, are that nunchakus and Chinese sticks? I'm going to be fine to distribute justice with them. The next phase is on top of a moving truck, something tells me that I'm going to fall over the edge, and see how many suits appear. Bah Who said fear? ¡GO FOR IT!

This is what the game has

classicism, quality, rhythm, association, respect, pampering... but it would not be bad to say what it does NOT have: there are no mansions with evanescent platforms, there is no need to jump on a combine, there are no bars to accumulate power and spend time, no there are absurd traps that stupidly take lives from you, there are no stalactites, there is no platform like in a Super Mario.

Playing Double Dragon Advanced is not sitting down to see a photo album and beautiful memories, while you caress your gray hair to the tune of "before, this was all field", not even a sex robot from Futurama designed with the best things in people that have meant something good in your life; is to have a new love made with pieces from the best past moments to have a new experience that will never leave you.
