A typical sight at breeding colonies
This is a usual sight you see when walking amongst a breeding colonies of penguins during breeding season. A predator, also known as a Skua, attempting to catch some lunch to feed its own chicks that they have in their nests close by. Their food source during this breeding time is mainly penguin eggs and baby penguins, which is why they do have bit of a bad wrap of a reputation, as I'm sure you can all imagine why that is the case.
Not the greatest of shots I have ever taken but the best one I could manage in the few seconds that this happened... AND no, no baby penguins were harmed during this attempt from the Skua

However, this is also a standard sight halfway through the summer breeding season when you are in the penguin breeding grounds as well. Lots of baby penguins looking quite adorable being protected and guarded by one of their parents, whilst the other one is off foraging, which can be over 80km away!

I love penguins. Have you seen the penguin documentary, I believe it was called March of the Penguins.
They are fascinating animals. There's also scientists looking into their body mechanics, because they look so imbalanced but they are actually not.

Thanks! Those series of shots were taken in the South Shetland Islands on the Antarctic Peninsula. Robert Island to be exact I think from memory at a place called Robert Point. stoked you liked them
