Drone flies over yachts in a British harbour. Lyminton, UK. (video)

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Lymington is the nearest and shortest ferry crossing over to the Isle of Wight. I had already spotted shipwrecks on the island side (link for that post below), but back over on the mainland I was out of luck- or rather, the captains had had better luck- no shipwrecks!

With different harbours situated along the mouth of the Lymington River, drone flying was great. Walking along the docks, it was hard to tell just how many yachts and fishing boats were there- up in the sky, you could see them all.

Some of the walkways down to the yachts were gated off, members/owners only.

I tried to fly over the ship yard to film the repairs and boat construction going on, but was asked by someone from the lifeboat station or boat company to fly out at a greater distance. Up and out to sea I went.

Instead of a fly over of the ship yard, a snapshot from Google Maps shows how busy it was. Boats and work was of course different on the day, but was just as full.

Flying higher and out across the water where I was allowed to fly gave some great photos too.

The harbour was quite quiet but every now and then a boat would sail up. It was much quieter than any harbour I have been to in Thailand- not mounting an old diesel engine from a truck or small 2 stroke engine to the back of a boat would be quieter though! These two kinds of harbour are worlds apart.

The Isle of Wight is the island in the background along the horizon. The ferry can be seen in the foreground coming in. Trying to film the ferry docking, passengers and cars unloading was missed due to battery life!

On the way back home, we drove through the New Forest, one of the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pasture land, heathland and forest in the south east of England- particularly famous for its native ponies that roam free.

I think next weekend im not working so im going to try and get the Mavic up and make a video on where I live.

Have you had any issues with the gimbal on your mavic? In Nepal, mine had a funny five minutes where it just went completely out of control and i had to use RTH to get the drone back.

Cool, where abouts do u live? Will keep a look out for that.
The gimbal sometimes has a tilt- but that can be corrected in settings then re-calibration when back home. Somehow the little elastic rubber band that holds the gimbal plate in got hooked up and vibrated the shot- another time the same thing happen- spinning and out of control- landed- reset- no prob. minor things

I'm in Norfolk. Annoyingly, when the gimbal had issues for me, it was at the end of a 5 minute flight with some amazing footage and the video didn't save for some reason. Really frustrating. Did you see my Iceland drone video? That's the sort of thing i'd like to consistently produce but im afraid the UK just isn't as beautiful.

Really nice, Looks amazing there. Do you lock the exposure setting when you fly? What is Elborg? a crater? Think I need to go

Yeah full manual with nd filter. Eldborg is a crater yeah.

Another great post, I can imagine people can get a bit funny about drones being flown in certain areas. Would be good if you could film over at the bike park in Bangkok, would be a perfect area to fly and get some awesome footage!

i like this photograpy...i thought it is a best photograpy with boat....best of luck.....
