Understanding Nonverbal Communication
You may think that people always say what they mean, and you take them by their words; only to find out that - they're doing the exact opposite things that they talked about. The truth is that you shouldn't pay too much attention to people's verbal communication.
Words can be very deceitful - people who have mastered the art of playing with words beautifully, can tell you what is so sweet, and that you want to hear. But understanding of nonverbal communication will teach you to look at the things they don't say verbally.
Most of the greatest businessmen can easily tell with a hand shake, a good person that they should do business with or one who they shouldn't do business with. It's a power that humans possess, to understand another person even without words been spoken.
Many research works will tell you that human communication is more than 65% nonverbal. Meaning that just by reading people's gestures: hand movement, tone of voice, body posture, and other nonverbal clues - you can understand a person much better.
The way you increase your nonverbal communication is by completely focusing on the other person you're dealing with. Avoid the monologues that go on inside of your head. Just be in the moment - and observe the clues that they unintentionally give out.
