Would you like to hear what I learned reading "50 Things Every Young Gentleman Should Know " By John Bridges, Bryan Curtis ?

This book was published more than 11 years ago and it’s amazing to see how relevant this book is till date.

Many chapters deal with manners and etiquettes and I will explain tips which are often not paid attention to rather than mentioning chapter wise concepts

1.saying please – we all take saying please by granted, a young gentleman says please whenever he is asking something from someone for an item, favor or even advice, not only it is polite but also removes the possibility of sounding rude and sarcastic.
Never ever underestimate a, please.
Even if somebody is paid to do your work, always start with a please, moreover try to thank them once your work is done.
Which leads us to our next tip of saying thank you

2. As gentlemen you are bound to receive a lot of compliments, the best way you can accept the compliment is by saying thank you
Biggest mistake people do is whenever they are complemented, for example, like, if you recently got a haircut and someone complimented you for it, never say that he missed a spot or did the wrong undercut but instead, simply look straight in the eyes and say thank you
Remember looking into their eyes will change the game for you

3. Writing letters- yes gentlemen, you got me there, writing a hand written letter is grossly underestimated in today’s century
Networking with your bosses sometimes with a hand written letter has worked miracles, also if you want to thank someone write a letter, thanks to the electronic world we live in, chances are this letter of your will have a significant impact than a normal message.
It is a great networking opportunity that I have discovered and not many people tap into this opportunity
Tip: - write a letter on special papers or note cards, never write it on a normal piece of paper.

4.Excuse me or pardon me – remember to excuse yourself from situations like nature calls or sneezes, learn to differentiate between using pardon and excuse.
For example instead of yelling hey, use excuse me and add a title such as a mam, sir. It can go a long way if someone is not used to it.

5.Introducing people – if you are introducing two people, remember to introduce younger person to older person, instead of saying hey luu this is dad, better say hey dad this is my friend luu, always try to add something interesting to a conversation such that it is easier to remember names with an identity.

6.Shaking hands - always allow the elder person and ladies to offer their hand first, remember to always stand up when shaking hands, this is simply a respect statement which will make you stand out.
If for any reason you are not able to shake hands, explain why you cannot, for example, your hands might have grease after cleaning your motorcycle

Never ever comment on someone’s handshake, it is usually considered a rude gesture.one should never mind if the handshake is rough, loose or strong.

7.Receiving a gift – when a gentleman receives a gift he kindly thanks the giver, he never says “oh you should have.....”
A gentleman knows that a gift from the heart is more valued than a gift from the wallet
Never compare gifts as they can hurt feelings.

There are many other things which are covered in the book, but I figured out that these are instances we face every day and there are high chances that we completely ruin them subconsciously, without even knowing the significant impact little tweaks can cause.
