TECHNOLOGY IN TEACHING

One part of my blog about education was when I was able to tackle What Are Millennials

In relation to this topic, if millennials are the generation of high tech gadgets then it would be a challenge to each teacher to teach using technology.

In our school we are using the curriculum of 1:1 iPad Program in order to be able to give our students the skills needed for the 21st century.

What is 1:1 iPad Program?

In this program each students are required to have her/his own iPad. In order teach the students with the necessary skills and possess the capabilities to compete in and contribute to the demand of the world.

The one-to-one program has helped transform the teaching and learning environment so that our students have the opportunity to learn the skills needed to succeed in this digital world. With the support of the administration the teachers was able to participate in different seminars and was able to attend an inter-school seminar on how to use the iPads in educational purposes.

What are the Applications?

For starters, it is hard to control the students from viewing unnecessary applications. So, we are using the application called CLASSROOM. In which we can control and view the screen of their iPads, lock their iPads if they are not using it in the class, we can navigate it also and open a specific application on their iPad.

This application helps a lot of teacher to keep the students to be on track of their works.

One of the goal of having a 1:1 iPad program is to lessen the books they are carrying in school. It’s never been easier to create amazing lessons and deliver everything students need to stay engaged, all in one place. Build assignments in minutes and immediately share the details with your class. You save time, they stay on track.

In this application,

  • Students can pass their work

Keynote, Numbers and Pages

These two application are the basic applications the student can use. This is where they can use to make creative presentations, documents and spreadsheets.

You write about a 21st century classroom and it's amazing to see that these students are being prepared for the 21st century challenges and are getting the required competencies.
It saddens me that there are millions of kids around the world who do not have such opportunity. I teach kids from a low income community who are not able to get this kind of gadgets and will go into the same world to compete with their pairs around the world. Can you give me any valuable advice on how to get some gadget for my students too?

Hi, I admire your perseverance in teaching in a low income community. Regarding with your question , you can actually try to inquire in Apple. I am actually not sure how it works since our administrators were the one who introduced us with the program. 😊

Thank you. I will do just that..I have started searching the internet for such opportunity.
