New Beginnings / A short poem for 2017

A new year, a new start,
In this life full of troubles,
No more fear, no more doubt,
Let those grudges take flight,

You don't need them any more,
For they just weigh you down,
Keep you stuck in the past,
When it's time to move on,

Let your pain fade away,
Retain only your hope,
That this year will be better,
Than those you have had before,

Don't forget what you've learned,
You will need that going forward,
Recognise your mistakes,
As a guide, not a handicap,

Now it's 2017,
It's your year to do better,
Not only for yourself,
But, for everyone, together

Through helping our peers,
They can then help others too,
And before long at all,
That help comes back to you.
