At it's core, a makerspace is an open work space that provides the tools one would need to make or create anything they can dream up! Not everyone can afford the latest 3d printers, or all the tools it would require to build a new table, so makerspaces offer a great way for the average person to express their creativity in new ways, pursue a hobby, or even start a business, without breaking the bank to fill out a workshop for themselves.
Makerspaces typically have something for people of all ages, and are often hubs for education and critical thinking. This gives creatives a place to come together with like-minded individuals to bounce ideas between, or build partnerships. Makerspaces are also cultural hotspots that attract a wide variety of people with different ideals and talents. With so many resources under one roof, it's not hard to imagine why.
Makerspaces come in many forms. Some focus on making high-tech gadgets, while others are little more than a place to do a bit of weekend or holiday crafting. You'll find some in places like schools and libraries, strip-malls, and even in giant warehouses! One thing all makerspaces have in common is creative spirit. A desire to make something from nothing, and to learn.
Makerspaces can propel the next generation of skilled professionals and artists to all new levels of confidence and efficacy. Have you ever wanted to turn your hobby into a real business? They don't always have large machines for fabrication, or rows of computers for people to use or tinker with. If you've got scrap metal or wood, a couple computers, or some art supplies, and a space for others to work together, you have yourself a simple makerspace. In a nutshell, makerspaces can be whatever their members want them to be!

I (@thatsweeneyguy) have been working my steem-powered hands to blisters behind the scenes, and have been reworking the entire website for this project! It's still under heavy construction, and I will be publishing updates very regularly in the coming days and weeks.
I've neglected the website for some time, despite it being a key component to the whole endeavor. I need to be able to talk to my entire audience at once, and not just the Steem side of things. Pretty soon, tons of new chains are coming that will allow us to monetize our content, and that of our creatives, even further, but it's all gotta come together at the HUB.
The website will start to become the main interacting point with the community, and most contests, bounties, or other online activities, will likely start to take place there, and simply be announced on the social blockchains and our Discord Server!
I'm currently putting the finishing touches on a 'Virtual Whitepaper', with a few interactive elements to give it a bit of Steem House fun, so keep an eye out!
