The Man With Frustration

in #steemit8 years ago

Today has been another one of those days. I've been writing about them often and it seems that they just keep coming.

The most recent cause of my frustration and target of my ire is #Busy.org. Although they've built a platform that is more aesthetically pleasing than Steemit, has more features than Steemit, and shows more information than Steemit... it doesn't work correctly. (You also get a small vote bonus for using Busy.org to post if you use their tag.)

Recently, I've noticed that Busy has trouble posting things, even if everything else on my computer is working properly. I'll type a timely and witty response (if I do say so myself), but when I go to post it, Busy has an "unknown error" and doesn't post my comment. It also deletes it from the draft, so there's no evidence I had been typing at all.

I know, backup your posts. And I do! However, most people don't write their comments in a Word doc "on the off-chance the User Interface decides to consistently sabotage them." It has gotten to the point where I've developed a habit of copying my comments before hitting submit. more often than not, it has been helpful because my comment gets deleted.

There are other issues, namely the upvotes not working either. I hit upvote and get an error. I've mostly lived with it. Didn't know what else to do. I have gotten much more done since getting access to the slider bar. I can comment and leave small upvotes on many more posts than I could without it. However, if I have to try 3-4 times just to get one vote to submit, is it worth it?

Today I have tried submitting a post through Busy four times.

  • I tried submitting from a different tab
  • I tried a clean refresh of the page
  • I tried logging out and back in
  • I tried restarting my computer

Nothing worked. At this point, I might as well get a post off about how Busy is frustrating me as I don't want you to have to go through the same thing if you haven't started using it. I know, Steemit is in Beta, so Busy is basically in Alpha, but it's still frustrating when even the most basic functions of the program don't work.

That's it. Eventually things will get back to normal and you'll get your next installment in "The Man With" series. Busy will probably get this all sorted out soon.... or they've been hacked by this guy.

Either way, I'm going to choose to move forward. I'm not going to let my problems or frustrations keep me from meeting my goals. And now you've gotten to see that I'm actually working on practicing what I'm preaching.

Thanks for listening to my thoughts.

Rant over.

- How Do You Post Your Articles?

Sort:

I just posted from Busy and it seemed to work but I’ve had other posts not work at all. I feel your pain. The other day I wrote a killer post on Busy and somehow lost it. Hmm...You’ll never know how awesome it was! I should have written it in MSWord I guess but for some reason my brain wasn’t working.

Maybe Busy stands for busy tearing your hair out because it doesn’t work! Who knows. Anyway, hopefully you have a great weekend! Only 3 hours for me and it’ll be weekend time and we have a long weekend this week! Monday off! :)

I have written some pretty killer replies only to have them go out into nothingness. Still, I would have liked to read your post. It's a shame to have that creativity lost due to UI malfunctioning.

It will still be a good weekend. I'm going to have a good time regardless. Thanks for the encouragement though. Enjoy yours as well. See you around!

Busy is driving me nuts too!

I use it primarily for the slider bar but, as you say, the last couple of days the post just doesn't load and I'm also wondering whether it's worth it.

I copy my comments now before I hit the "comment" button but I'm wasting a ton of time waiting for things to load.

On top of all that I don't seem to get upvotes from busy at all now. I haven't had one since the 4th, despite posting at least once a day via busy and with the busy tag.

Are you still getting busy upvotes @themanwithnoname?

I haven't really been getting votes from them either. I got one on my last post, but haven't seen one in a while before that. Didn't use the tag on this one because I was still trying to do a "real" post that gave some information or entertainment, but ran out of time. This status update will have to suffice.

Yes, copying your comments seems to be the smart thing to do. It's a shame though. There is such good potential here with the Steem blockchain, but there have been a lot of missteps recently. It still in beta, which people say a lot, but they need to get it sorted soon. Facebook isn't just sleeping. They're working on their own blockchain, and it will be polished and will have customer support, marketing experts, and better name recognition. There's still a serious chance of losing people back to Facebook... or the other social media blockchains.

That being said, I'm still here. Not planning on leaving. I just see a larger perspective and don't want to see us lose out just because of slow responsiveness.

Glad to hear it's not just me then. Sounds like there might some sort of glitch in the upvoting.

When you say FB is is working on their own blockchain. Does that mean people will get paid to post there @themanwithnoname? If so I can't see why anyone would continue here if they've already got a ready made fan base there.

I'm not sure what the issues is. I think part of it could be that many of the systems on which we depend are built as plug-ins for the blockchain, so they're managed by one person or a small team. Responsiveness can be slower as a result.

I don't follow facebook news too much, but a while ago they talked about how they were exploring blockchain technology. They would have to be silly to ignore what is happening. I don't know that they would pay much, but I don't see it being difficult for them to issue tokens that could be redeemed for services or games on their platform. So you wouldn't actually get paid, but you could gain value.

So, just curious. Why do you keep using it? What's it got that steemit doesn't?

No sarcasm here, just really wondering:)

and we've talked before about this; there is absolutely NO way to replicate a really good, witty response once it's been deleted...which yours always are (witty I mean) unless of course it's been deleted, then it's second rate at best haha

So you're saying that my comments aren't good?! :) Or not deleted? You get my password?

I keep using it because it allows me to use the slider bar on votes. That has been extremely helpful in keeping my VP at reasonable levels. I'm trying to keep it valuable and I run out of VP if every comment vote is at 100%. I try to do bigger votes on comments on my posts, but there's never enough votes to give. Y'know?

I've taken to copying the comments before I post, so if it deletes, I can try again.

For the record, your comments are always awesome!! even the second-kick-at-the-can ones :)

I hear you loud and clear! I keep steemworld open in a tab and then work on steemit. I can use the vote slider there...it's so simple, and then never have to leave. ever I was up to 80% finally after days of not much upvoting (you know, 2% milk stuff), but at 100% I'm up to 0.5, so I'm really trying to get there. It's a struggle for sure!

I told @beeyou I would show her and I'm be very happy to show you too if you're interested. Let me know :)

Wait, you can vote from SteemWorld? I didn't know that. Yeah, you should do a post on it. You information posts are great. I learn so many new things.

Alright buddy, thanks for my next idea! @bashadow did one too some time ago...maybe he will see this and link it for you! It's a topic always worth a repeat performance though.

@lynncoyle1, thanks! @bashadow, that's a good guide. The only part I had trouble with was finding the "links" section. I didn't realize that "Tools" down below expanded. Ha ha. Newb!

haha @themanwithnoname! I had to go back to @bashadow to ask the same thing! I too did not realise that "Tools" expanded ;) Newb!

If I revive the idea of a post explaining it all, I'll be sure to point that one out!

Thanks again @bashadow for giving us the heads-up on it all in the first place ;)

As the guy who told you about Busy, I feel my own pain.

However, while it's no consolation, Steemit has been buggy, too, which makes me wonder if there's more going on under the hood than just tinkering with the UI.

Because I used Busy earlier today and had no issues, but when Steemit started to slow down (I kind of bounce back and forth at times depending on need), Busy took forever to load.

Not cool, but maybe it's not just Busy having issues. That monkey might be hacking the blockchain!

Heh, I'm sorry, @glenalbrethsen! I don't hold you responsible. You would know if I did because vengeance would have been exacted already!!! :P

I think I read something about witnesses having to switch over to using 64GB of RAM on their nodes. The deadline was supposed to be soon. It could be they're missing blocks or something and that is causing issues with the chain. Don't know.

I do the same thing as you, I bounce around to whatever is working. Maybe I'll get Dtube and post videos of my typing my articles, so it's like you're reading them as posts... but not. Ha ha.

Dance, monkey!

You'd have to find a really awesome mask though to do that @themanwithnoname :)

...and @glenalbrethsen, am I sensing an awesome conspiracy theory 'rant' coming on? :) (and fyi, you never rant, I'm tired and can't think of a better word!)

I have had the same problem. Busy is to busy to publish my post. I think it maybe because of the influx of new users.

That could make sense. It has quite a few features that Steemit doesn't have (specifically the slider) that make it desirable, so it could just be overwhelmed with the mob of bots people who are signing up. :)

Don't tear all your hair out, random bald spots are in style!

That is good to know. I now have someone to give me all the latest blockchain hairstyle advice and trends. :)

Do you use Busy, or just Steemit.com?

Just steemit, for now I still have all my hair.

Ha ha, that's good you've still got your hair. :)
