Silver of the Day #32

This coin is actually one of the first coins that I bought when I really started stacking a few months ago. Prior to that, I had some coins that I had collected, but I wasn't actually stacking to preserve wealth.

My first trip to the coin store I was lost and confused. I asked questions. Lots of questions. I knew they wanted to sell me stuff, but the guy was really nice in explaining how different things worked. I was glad I took the time to ask because it has helped me have a better understanding of which coins I wanted to buy, and which I wanted to wait on.

I knew about Silver American Eagles as I had previously bought them for people as gifts. So I knew those were going to be part of my base, but I didn't know what other coins to get. I learned there's no wrong answer when it comes to coins, it's just a matter of preference. Some cost more, but some also have different kinds of value.

This coin was one that cost a little more at the time, and I wasn't sure if I was making a good decision, but now I'm glad I spent the extra money.

Beautiful, isn't it? Even as I look the pictures and wrote the article, I kept thinking that I need to get more of these.

I'm playing around with camera angles, so I apologize for the varied perspectives. I don't want to be afraid to take risks, so I'm trying to get better at the craft.

- What do you think? Would you have spent the extra money on this coin?

- Any hints or tips for how to best take a picture of coins?

Loved the design on that piece. They did however have a very weak strike to them.

Is that why it looks rather smooth? No deep lines? I wonder if that was just this coin specifically or if that was how they made the die. Maybe it varies from year to year. I'll have to buy more to find out. Heh

This one will surely look better blackened, would you say?

I have no doubt that they are worth the premium. I have one of this series. About hints about coin photos, if you read any of my daily articles you will notice that I am in greater need of the hints...:=(

Glad you agree about the premiums.

Hey, I've seen your posts. You do a great job of getting the angle and the lighting right. I don't know that mine are terrible, I just figure that if I can get some hints, then I can be even better.

Great article, my friend. In addition to buying only what you like and prefer... one must always stack within his or her means, and only using their disposable income. This is key to growing any stack.

Yes, you don't want to overextend, or you might end up having to sell some of the stack to cover bills. You'll lose money on the roundtrip and be in worse shape than you would have been if you had kept the money. Also, you have to figure out which of your precious silver pieces you are going to give up.

This coin looks awesome! The contrast with the background is great as well. I think your picture taking is fine. Good job!

Thanks, I"m glad you like the coin, and I appreciate the feedback on the photos. :)

Anytime! :)

howdy @themanwithnoname! this is worth the extra money, it's money well spent sir. Very cool design .

I'm glad you liked it. It wasn't that much more than a regular Silver American Eagle. I'm glad I got it regardless.

I got some cool, new designs to show you later this week. I think you'll like them. :)

I doubt that I;m kinda picky but I'll take a look at them anyway if I'm forced to.

You are rather particular on some of the coins and bars. I'll have to keep that in mind. Maybe I should put a notice on the posts that says "Approved for @janton viewing" if I think it will pass muster. If I don't, I'll just put a big Red "NO" at the top so you know to stay away. :P

ahahaha! that would suffice sir, thank you. lol.
well so far I've liked everything you have, have you ever seen an ugly silver bar, or round or coin that was in the shop for sale?

I haven't seen an ugly one, but if I did, I might buy it because it was unique. I don't really prefer some of the generic rounds. If it has the Buffalo design, I probably won't get it anymore because I have some already and I try to look for new designs. I like to mix it up so I have plenty of different coins and bars to look at. It makes it more interesting for me. That's just me though.

no I agree and there needs to be loads of unusual and great designs. like with pirate stuff and Western stuff.

There are some really cool western coins that some of the other guys and gals have. I haven't been able to get any yet since I'm still only buying locally, but I got that Turtle coin after wanting it hard enough, so I'm just going to start wanting the western rounds as much as I can and hopefully they'll arrive sooner than the three months it took to get the turtle. ;)

Those a nice coins my friend. Have several of them, a few of them lack detail. I think they had a minting issue with some. But I like the design.👍

Pit was saying that it was a weak strike on this one. I still haven't found out if it was on all of them, or just some. I'd like to get one with a stronger strike because I think it would be more... striking if there were more details. Sorry, I had to. :P

It wasn’t all of them, I have a few that are fantastic. They also made a Proof version but that has a much higher premium.

Do you collect proofs? I haven't gotten into them yet.

On certain coins I do.

I also found out that there's a 10 ounce version of this coin, and rather than just being bigger, it's zoomed out a bit so you can see another lion next to them.

And THEN.....

There's a kilo version of it that's even BIGGER and is more zoomed out with a 4th lion!!!!! on it. That's the one to get. You can even see mountains in the background.

I saw the 10 ounce in person it’s nice. No kilo though

Right on! Something to look forward to.

I really need to get a reserve $200 that I can leave in my wallet so if a killer deal comes up on something like that then I can just buy it!

that's a beautiful coin - looks like something my wife would get for me - I'll have to post a couple pics of some of the ones my collection - I have some cool ones too - they rarely see the light of day -

Yes! I would love to see pictures of your collection! Since I started posting on silver coins, I'm surprised at how many people have started to say that they have a coin collection as well. I'm trying to inspire people to collect more of it. :)

ok .. I'll make a blog post on it and show you some of what I have - I have coins, bullion, and bricks

It sounds like you have quite a bit! Looking forward to that. :)

This week I showed the Congo silverback gorilla coin. I also showed African Wildlife elephant coin. Fortunately, I did not pay a high premium on either of these. Sometimes, I get lucky at my local coin shop.
It is important to know which coins should carry a premium. If you see them at your LCS, then you might get them without the higher premium.

Yeah, the silverback gorilla normally carries a rather sizable premium, so if you were able to get it without much markup, then you're doing well. I've found that for a lot of the non-standard coins the local shop sells them for less than online. (Standard being the American silver eagle, Canadian Maple Leaf, and even the Britannia). If you're looking outside of that, premiums are probably lower as they don't have many of them, so they want to move them and get the shelf space for something more popular.

This is absolutely correct. I know that some of my local coin shops will not pay any premium on any private mint coins. They could be a low mintage coin with a lot of popularity and they will not and do not pay more than spot, or actually less than spot. That is unfortunate for the seller; however, it is fortunate for the next buyer coming into the LCS because they get a great deal.

I was wondering why some of them were so low. That makes sense if they're buying them at spot or below. I guess they don't take the time to look them up and see what they're worth. Good for me since I'm buying!

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

I heard they have a lot of metal reserves in Africa, They are making good use of it now am sure (y)
