RE: Silver of the Day #31

I didn't realize that it wasn't officially celebrated until then. I would have figured that it would be much earlier.

I'm glad you had so many chances to be with your kids while they were growing up. I'm sure they appreciated the time they got with you, if not then, at least now.

Thanks, I really like it!

I was really surprised myself. I guess I'll have to go delving into a bit more to see if I can find out why it took so long. The summer of 1972 would have been during the Nixon administration, prior to his re-election. I would have thought there would plenty of opportunity by prior presidents to national a holiday for fathers just like for mothers, especially since it would be held on a Sunday and would not interfere with the work week.

Maybe a bunch of fathers showed up in D.C. with baby buggies and shouted, "We want equality! We want equality!"

Okay, probably not, but hey, it could have happened. :)

I doubt the men showed up with strollers to demand it. It was more likely that someone wanted to score some political points, so decided to move forward with it. Then again, who really know? There are always layers upon layers of subterfuge in politics.
