RE: Silver of the Day #29

Yep, it's a hobby. And I haven't made a dime off it. Actually, I did get that one free dime. But other than that, it's just money that I'm spending. I've kind of been considering cutting back on my spending as we have other ways we could use the money. Hmmm.

When you're dependent on your brain and it's not cooperating, that's a tough spot to be in. And if you don't drink coffee, you in another tough spot.

I don't know there's money in reviewing comic books here, but I do know there's money in reviewing anime on Patreon. I heard of a guy making over $60,000 per year just by watching episodes of something and commenting as he watched. Maybe you could do something like that with comics if you set up a Patreon account.

Sort:

I have a Patreon account. It's what I was working on just before I came over here. I didn't get anywhere. I wasn't reviewing anime or comic books, though. Maybe I should. Unfortunately, Patreon has a worse visibility issue than Steemit, or for that matter, most social media sites. There's virtually no way there to discover content. You either need to know who or what you're looking for going in, or go sifting through a search list created by a third party site based on earnings in different genres.

Once people do discover you, though, the situation is better. You can generally dole out different levels of packages and people can choose the packages and price points they're most comfortable with.

So, it's the old, build up a following on some other social media and hope you can drive them to Patreon thing, when you've been giving away stuff on the social media sites so you can get them to pay for something on Patreon.

At least you know what you need to do. People love giveaways. Most creators probably do giveaways and such on Facebook and have them head to the Patreon account to get the info for the prize or something. A lot of Youtubers like to get subscribers. Maybe they also advertise a Patreon account. I don't know. I was never good at all that stuff. Maybe you can figure it out and become a huge star!

Nah. I don't want to be a huge star. I want to be the writer recluse, the one no one knows anything about, that only comes out of their cave every so often to stock up on supplies and make contact with the outside world. Then back inside their cave they go.

I don't need to win a personality contest (wouldn't anyway) and I don't need hordes of people to love me. Because other hordes can hate me, and who needs that kind of devotion or hatred? I'd rather just keep it simple with my family and whoever might want to call me a friend. They can love my stories, and I'll just smile and say thank you. :)

If I could figure out the marketing game, I probably wouldn't be here. I'd be touring the world autographing my books and talking the finer points of my prose. I'd be asking young adults what they got out of the story, or what they think it all means. After that, I'd be retreating to my beachfront property sipping on a refreshing drink and counting my blessings even more.

I guess I would have to come out of cave to do that, though. Maybe I can trade the cave for a secluded beach somewhere. And lots of sunblock. :)

I can't blame you for not wanting to be a huge star. I would rather not have a bunch of people know my face and name. It's easier to just go about my business if people don't know me.

I'd like for you to figure out the marketing game so you can tour and sign autographs. Then you can enjoy your drinks and your blessings.
