Coin of the Day 9-17-18
I hadn't been able to buy silver for a while, so my Stakitus was acting up. I was finally able to get some extra moolah and I took it right down to the local coin store. I looked through their tray of generics to see if anything caught my eye. There wasn't anything new or exciting.
Since I've been in there quite a bit over the last six months, I'm comfortable asking if they have anything special in the back. They were fairly tapped out as a lot of people have been taking advantage of the lower prices. However, they did have something new that I hadn't seen before, in a size that I hadn't collected before.
It's a 10 gram bar of silver. From what I can tell it is a generic bar produced by an unknown mint. A few ebay listings seem to indicate it was minted in 2015, but I haven't been able to confirm that.
There's a nice pattern on the back of the bar, but nothing special.
I don't know who made this bar, but I liked the proof-like finish on it. I also appreciate that it's a different size than the one ounce bars. I like the variety.
What do you think about 10 gram bars?
It is a beautiful bar, but usually these tiny bars carry a high premium. Depending on the premium, I would buy it or not...
It was a bit higher premium than I would have preferred, but it wasn't terrible considering it was such a small bar. I think I paid $6 for this. I probably wouldn't buy another, but it was fun to get the one.

Oh, yeah? I'd sell it to you. Or you could buy some other silver for the meantime. I'm so glad you've decided to invest in silver! ;)

yes but we'll reach an agreement in time. It will help to have an overflow in income. That opens lot of options up.
I don't know about 10gr bars but it's got a sniper on it. Sucked me in right away. I want one.
I figured that you would be one who liked the sniper aspect of it. It's definitely not the way to go if you're stacking for weight, but it's shiny and is something different, so I was glad to get it.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. It was likely some Army enthusiast who had it minted, but I can't find who specifically minted it. They may have made other designs as well.

Not sure if I have much of a comment about the 10 gram part. I guess I would have to see what it looks like next to a one ounce bar. Looks like it would be smaller, or thinner than a one ounce, so it should also make it cheaper, right?
That's a pretty intimidating looking front side, though. Cobras and what not. I can't really make out all the detail with the size of the image, but it's pretty amazing art.
The bar doesn't look silvery. Is that the light? The case? My monitor? My eyes? Anyway, I'd say you've got a definite keeper here.
It's a little less than 1/3 of the thickness of a 1 ounce bar. It's thin enough that I think I could bend it fairly easily. I haven't really tried though because I don't want it to be bent, I just want to try doing the bending. It's a real conundrum.
The overall cost is less than a 1 ounce bar, but the cost per gram is higher.
The bar might not look silvery because of the light that I'm using. It's got a softer glow to it. Maybe I need to get some that are lower in the heat spectrum so it comes out bluish. That would be cool. Get it, cool? :P

I'm glad you like it. The design is confrontational to some extent. I wasn't intending to start any kind of debate, just showcasing the bar. You're right though, it's an "in your face" kind of bar.
