Steemit Fatigue

in #steemit8 years ago

One week left of my two year experiment on Steemit and I think it cannot come too soon. At the moment I am suffering from serious Steemit fatigue characterised by a total lack of enthusiasm to engage on the platform.

So Steemit has over one million members and around 125K active users daily as regards posts.(which includes comments) so I would guesstimate that there are about 25K actual humans interacting based on my activity of around 6 or 7 posts and comments a day.

25 000 active users and getting more than 20 votes is a challenge despite having 1900 followers and 20 odd thousand voting?

It is clear that the activity is slowly dying as the price drops

So what is the problem with the platform…. Or my form as it may just be that I produce crap content. Or perhaps I do not engage enough? To my mind there are a few reasons for the decline in ‘user; satisfaction and these are :-

  • the sliding vote and diminishing voting power
  • incestuous whales and their bots raping the vote pool
  • self voting and amended vote payouts for comments
  • as a new user getting traction is extremely difficult as your post stays on the ‘new’ page for under 60 seconds

I went back in time and had a look at my blog and number of votes received when there were less than 60 thousand users of the platform.

And back to friend @penguinpablo’s statistics (I could only go back 11 months unfortunately)

And a sample of my posts at that time below....

Restricting the votes per day has ensured that people only vote for those who they perceive can help them in return and so new Steemians do not get the support required to grow their Steem Power. Short of investing in a power up it is no longer feasable for a new user to grow

Where to now? I do not know, but working on a post for a few hours which is not going to be seen by more than a handful of people and will be rewarded with $0.60c is not really motivating at all.

I will decide by the end of the month what to do... but to my mind Steemit as a vibrant community is dying

Thanks for reading this depressing, scatterball post and as always thanks for the support.

Namaste

PS: Forgot to mention ... after 2 years I am still Reputation 67 despite posting regularly. How is this possible?

It's all a bit depressing, isn't it? I think the thing of reducing full voting power from 40 votes a day to 10 was a major error. All fine for those of us who can use the slider. But its made it very difficult for newbies to engage, I think. And that's only one of the issues. I understand if you want to slope off now, but I'd miss you!

Thanks Debs. I really believe Steemit losing traction. I was looking at passive investment through delegation, but will probably power down.
You are one of the few 'stayers' on my daily feed. . .and I too will miss you ...everytime I post I look forward to your comments. Always relevant and always meaningful

That is really interesting seeing your stats.

Mine are similar, and I'm coming towards two years as well

I have become re-enthused by setting up a second account and saying all the stuff I have been holding back from saying - you may find it interesting - especially my bot experiment

no other word for you @themagus, keep the spirit and success always for you, I always support you.

Thank you my friend

I think, your ride in steemit had passed numerous times. I applaud your diligence with be steemian, there are only people who endure like a natural selection. I hope your commitment be maintained steemian. After seeing you experiences, I have strong motivation so that the future can be successful like yours though now the hard times for steemians.

Dang! I would be wicked bummed if you decided to power down and walk away. While I haven't been active here myself much over the past few weeks, it's more because my body is being stupid, and not so much the Steem price drop. Although I get the feeling if I were more active, I'd also be discouraged with the reward pool being less rewardy.

I hope if you do decide to PD, you still drop in occasionally with a post or three.

I understand you, I'm only 6 months old here, working my butt to grow, thought about stopping many times. But 6 months is not enough... maybe I'll re-think after 2 years like you are doing.

I think that, because I've started during this depression (I haven't seen those huge payouts of 2 years ago), I'm kinda used to low rewards, that way I just keep on going slowly.

I won't try to change your decision, but you'll need to keep your account to keep on trying to discover the treasure xDD

Yes, indeed, everything is not very good on the platform. This is felt at all levels. Such a brilliant idea, it is a pity if it dies even before reaching its heyday. I saw the news yesterday that Ned power cut off. So maybe this is really the beginning of the end.

hello Stranger {smile} ....I did not know that .... add in this news to the mix and maybe the cracks are starting to show..
