Let us have thirty seconds of silence in remembrance of the legendary guitarist James Marshall Hendrix aka "Jimi" who would have celebrated his 76th birthday this 27th day of November. Alas alack, he suffered an early demise at the tender age of 27 ensuring an membership entrance to the "27 Club".....

Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison all died at the age of 27 between 1969 and 1971. At the time, the coincidence gave rise to some comment,[11][12] but it was not until the 1994 death of Kurt Cobain at age 27, that the idea of a "27 Club" began to catch on in public perception.[10]

Born in Seattle, Washington Jimi started playing the guitar at the age of 15. After a stint as a paratrooper in the military he received an honorable discharge and started playing gigs in Clarksville, Tennessee. He moved to England in 1966 and came to the attention of Chas Chandler, the bassist for The Animals, who became his manager.

Within months Hendrix had three UK Top 10's, "Purple Haze, Hey Joe and The Wind Cries Mary ....

He achieved fame in the U.S. after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and in 1968 his third and final studio album, Electric Ladyland, reached number one in the U.S.; it was Hendrix's most commercially successful release and his first and only number one album. The world's highest-paid performer, he headlined the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970, before his accidental death from barbiturate-related asphyxia on September 18, 1970, at the age of 27.
