Feathered Friends
This morning early we headed out to Groote Post country farm for my lady to do a half marathon trail run. I took my camera along, as being dragged out of bed at 04h30 on a Sunday must have some perks. We had never been there before (130km's outside Cape Town with quite a lot of dirt road involved) so had no idea what to expect.
Bird Hide
What a bonus for me when walking along the route to try to find a vantage point to photograph the runners coming in. A bird hide on a small pond of water!!! Quick as a flash I was in there ... So here follows some of the birds I saw there, not the greatest quality pics but it will truly demonstrate something...
How absolutely blessed we are here in Africa with bird life... and which I fear I am going to miss desperately when we relocate to Europe
Cape Bulbul
Egyptian Goose
There were also two types of bird I have never seen before, only one of which I got a photo.. the other being plentiful but on the side of the dirt road we were driving. I will go back just to photograph and identify that species.
Three Banded Plover... I have never encountered one before. Pleasant surprise
Two Red Billed Teal and a Blackwinged Stilt ...cool red legs
Two Mousebirds
You decide....feathers or fur?
Lesser Striped Swallow .... a beautiful, graceful bird...they migrate every autumn all the way to Europe to breed
For me it is humbling to know we live amongst these lovely little life forms. There constant movement and sounds create a small canvas of which most humans are not mindful of.... but would be seriously disconcerted if they were to no longer grace our skies
