Your eyes are bruises

From the punches you

Keep taking, brittle branch

In high wind– you think you

Are broken as the splinters

Embed, another ice storm

Reminder that the warmth

Is long gone now, color

Escaped when you tore the

Skin from your broken nails

You tried to use your talons

But your hope escaped again
