Lightning-split, sparks of forked

Tongue, wild eyes, her bruised

Ribs and broken back affirm

An atlas existence, she

Snaps her bones in dark defiance

One more mongrel in the tar pit

They can only see her value as

Gristle in the machine of someone

Else, the detritus of a life stitched

Together with fragmented memories

A feral growl, the wolf has fangs

A phoenix reborn in the ashes
