OLD BARN № 040steemCreated with Sketch.

One of the great lessons of life is that nothing is forever, and this barn is proof of that, as it is no longer standing. I passed this barn many times but had difficulty getting a photo of it, as the highway is rather busy and there was no good place to pull over. Finally, one day as I was passing by, the traffic abated enough for me to stop the car briefly, roll down my window, and take this shot.

This barn was situated on a piece of property alongside US Highway 178 in Pickens County, South Carolina. The most interesting feature to me was the long, sloping roof that covered the entire structure. Three enormous pieces of sheet metal were placed on each side to keep out the wind and rain. It is always fascinating to see how the elements oxidize metal, just as they weather wood and give a vintage look to everything in Mother Nature's path.

As is the case with many barns in this area, this was once a "working" barn on a farm, as evidenced by the rolls of hay out front. There is a largish pasture adjacent where horses or cows could graze (although I never saw any there during the times I passed).

So, yes... nothing is forever, so enjoy what is here, before it is gone.

@thekittygirl

I see these types of barns everywhere here in Missouri... much like old farm homes; dilapidated, run down, but yet... some still have the old lace curtains in the window. I get a weird feeling every time I drive by them...

It reminds me of the YouTube channel my other-half found several months ago... there are actually "several" channels with the same content, but it's those channels that show old and abandoned homes, resorts... all types of places. I can't help but get teary-eyed watching these videos... yes, they are cool to see how things are left behind, but a lot of these homes... the people left personal artifacts; family photos, bank ledgers, food...clothes... I just have a real hard time watching them, considering how hard we have worked, for what little we have...

Anyway...

Love the manipulation to this photograph. Sorry haven't popped in sooner... really enjoyed your post, my friend...
