⚛️ Mind Shift With The Honeys #7: Changing Personal Communication To Change Relationships
If you are having any sort of breakdown in business or personal, it's based on a break down of communication! Learn better communication in a fun way!
Below, we have transcribed this video, so, it may not be exact!! :) .
AMY: Hi guys!
JAMIE: and girls.. so both of you! Guys and girls, everyone!
AMY: Everyone! A lot of you might not know about Mr. Jamie Honey here is that
JAMIE: Huh? Don't tell them about it
AMY: Oh, I'm not gonna tell them that.
JAMIE: Oh that's good. Tell them something else, quick!
AMY: Well, a lot of you might now know that he is an improv coach, he actually worked in to companies and help them if they were having big corporate mergers, they would help merge. He would help sells by teaching them improv.
Improv is a great tool and it's super fun. But it's all about communication. And communication is so important.
JAMIE: Yeah, absolutely. And for those of you of improv via different names. It's probably like Fitsport or ______.
AMY: That's a great TV show and super fun.
JAMIE: Great TV Show, go watch it. It is super fun. But improv is about taking whatever situation is infront of you and understanding it and accepting it and spending it to a greater outcome. And that's what I do with businesses and corporations is looking at communication that you're having, because a lot of not actually hearing what's being said.
We're hearing our interpretation of what's being said.
AMY: And Rose just joined us!! Hi Rose!
JAMIE: Hi Rose!
AMY: That's my birth mom! We just met a few years ago. So it's really great to see you here.
Awesome, and yeah so communication is super important if there's any kind of breakdown in our lives or like any kind of thing we're having an issue with, it's generally a breakdown in communication. And so to learn to be better communicators improv is one of the best tools that we can use. And we actually went to an improv class last year in Vegas.
JAMIE: Yeah, absolutely!
AMY: Sin City, Improv big shot out to you guys. It's very funny because we were asked why we would want to take the class today. And Jamie was like - Oh I just wanna you know, flexed my muscles a little bit and practice and stuff.
JAMIE: This muscles.
AMY: and my answer was, I wanna be able to learn how to win a fight with this guy coz he is so good in improv he can spend anything I say into a what
JAMIE: I think what AMy is trying to say is that, sometime she feels like we're having an argument but I'm just merely pointing out the elements of her opinion that not concurred with the actual evidence of facts on supporting a positive outcome for both of us.
so yeah, it;s not actually an argument but it's more of an opportunity for her to learn that this other view points out is more beneficial to me
AMY: (Laughing)
JAMIE: Anyway, improv is great. It really is. Hearing what the other person is really saying.
AMY: Oh, that silly thing it does.
JAMIE: Learning that you don;t have to say no and blocked any situation coming toward you. You can go -- oh thank you and now let's make it something better, let's make it something greater. Which is again called Yes a Hand
AMY: Yes actually, it's actually a super fun game
JAMIE: Great for sales, great for HR
AMY: And it's really teaches you to both sides of the brain while you're communicating. So, when someones talking to you rather than you just trying to think about the next thing you gonna say, you're able to actually actively listen to that person and then just let whatever that comes to you. And improv teaches you on how to do that and active listening is super important and any communications but specially sales or business.
I'm shocked that more businesses don't actually require your teams to get in an improv. Or if you actually want to be a public speaker.
JAMIE: Speaker is very good because that part of the brain that you use when you speak or what you're going through what you're having to say. There's also different part of the brain observing what's going on in the environment. And there's another part it's like - hey, I'm ready for when you finished this, we're going to do this. So the planning ahead situation. So, learning to stay in the moment present with the people but also be aware of the future months and not to be distracted by one or the other. Have them both flowing, so as you can have a powerful talk or impactful situation. Be in a relationship or one on one, or definitely a speaker on stage.
AMY: Yeah, it actually help you and enables you to handle anything that coming at you.
So, when somebody throw something at you, that might be negative or
JAMIE: Like a rhinosourous! When somebody throws it at you
AMY: Hopefully, nobody does that. But if they do you say --thank you for that rhinosourous and I'm gonna take it home because it needs a bath right now.
JAMIE: Yeah, and it's very good in argument situation. Just like if you get like a customer service place or something like it. I love you customer service people because you're taking on a job that is so difficult because people don't ring them the customer service to say how much I love you. No! (laughing)
99% of your calls are like -- I have a problem! It enables you to hear the problem, acknowledge the person for the problem for sharing that problem. But also direct their answers in the self awareness for themselves which takes you of of the position of the person of being argued against or attacked. So improv is very good at that learning skill
AMY: So if you find an improv class in your area, I recommend you jumping in. It's actually super fun and you learn to just accept and it is such a great tool.
JAMIE: And talking about fun, it improves endorphins in the brain and your immune system. And it's actually very very healthy to get out there and laugh with other people.
AMY: And it might also help you out a little bit out of your comfort zone. If you're looking for a change in life and try something new, we highly recommend it. And speaking of new
We can tell them about the awesome news?
