Does it have to make sense. Probably not, I will try to make sense of that statement as I make my way through this post. The topic of price value has only just dissipated some, the price drops again and it is what I am hearing most about. How it has an effect on the use of the Steemit platform, on how many post. Generally indicating a loss of interest by some in using the platform maybe due to not as great a financial gain.
I have seen personally members stop posting who were doing far better than I have being doing. Honestly I cannot reason why. Other than those who have other obligations or maybe those who are not here now have those other obligations because of the value drop. To be a bit blunt on that. This only demonstrates the benefits to powering up. I can only assume those who no longer can profit enough from being here and have stopped posting. Would of being those who were making regular withdrawals. If a higher percentage was powered up each week, would their reward value be any higher?
That is just my way of looking to things. A big part f that might be to do with our community standing. In the three month we have being going we have reached an increase of 36 SP. Twenty four percent up on our start. We do have a little bit of extra backing. Some concentration is directed at growing that too, as that section grows it can only benefit the community with higher rewards to your posts.
The value in posting now, as at any other time is to grow your strength. This will relate more to those who have played video games. In the video games, things are repetitious, the same things over and over again, with slight changes to what you see or which interaction is needed to perform a task. Games have come along way since my day. In these games, (unless these war games MMORPG and even in many of those. You need to level up to progress.
Steemit is no different when it comes to SP SBD or VP. All the VP does is represent your power in a battle. Each punch you throw or shot you fire uses up one power unit (vote). The amount of shots you can fire each day is limited by your VP or your attack will begin to lose too much strength.
Gaining more SP, or levelling up will bring a stronger shot or the ability to shoot more weaker shots while remaining equal to the strength of your previous level. The SBD would be like your travel currency. You may want to interact with other members in the community and exchange SBD or liquid Steem for Items thy have or assistance with something you were working on. Maybe you just like the way they talk, Who knows. (I bet we all have some questions for that Who person).
So you see here it is in black and white. Get posting and level up, The more you level up now, the more you will be ale to keep doing so while still taking a rake. There is nothing wrong in taking a reward fr your efforts. The best direction to go with your Steem power is up. Call it savings or treat it like a game, aim to reach a level. Then reflect on if you want to carry on playing or not. The Hive has a few thousand levels to go yet. and we only have 36 met so far. It is also 36 less than ours needs at the start of the project.

I remember not all that long ago, all my curation rewards when I would get one was $0.001, I still get those, but as my VP/SP has grown my curation rewards have grown. I now get some curation rewards as high as:
From my curation rewards page two. So you see powering up your SBD's to steem, then to SP, can be very rewarding. I still get a lot of $0.001 curation rewards, but they do add up. If you are someone that uses steem as a monetary aid, and have stopped posting because it cost more to withdraw and convert than would be practicable, power it up, then when the value gets back to a practical level for you go back to the withdraw routine, you will be earning more.
A bonus to fewer postings is it makes your postings more visible.

I, too, am mystified why so many have stopped, or slowed, their posting. When the price of Steem shoots up, they might regret that decision! In the meantime, there are more upvotes for the rest of us! 😉
At the very least you have a chance to gain greater visibility, and might get seen by that whale vote we all seek out.
