World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (WDCD) in Teken Quarter, Mile 4 Nkwen - Bamenda, Cameroon

Today we commemorated WDCD in our community with over 21 young people in attendance.

Before the cleaning

This piece of land was given to us by a member of the community for us to use it for our Plastic Bottles Recycling and One Million Trees Project.
Today, we leveled and cleaned the land as well as shared knowledge about Desertification and Drought, how they affect us and what we can do to mitigate them.

This is how the space looked after we cleaned it.

After the cleaning

We started working at 01:00PM with our volunteers and for over 3 hours, we accomplished our goal which was to clean the site and level it.

Working Tools

While we cleaned, we had dispatched some of our volunteers to go for a plastic bottles drive and we were amazed with the quantity of plastic bottles we gathered from our community.

The plastic bottles drive was followed by the eating of sugar-cane to replenish the energy and an educative talk on Desertification and drought by @mr-greens

This was followed by the taking of a family photo, general discussions and departure.

The video of the event is more detailed and we will publish it tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

Today marked the launching of our Plastic Bottle Recycling and One Million Trees Project that strives to upcycle 500,000 Plastic Bottles into One Million UPB Tree Nursery Pots to nurse and grow one million trees (fruit trees, agroforestry trees, medicinal trees, ornamental trees) which will be planted in the Bamenda Highlands of the North West Region of Cameroon in order to promote food and fruit security, alleviate poverty and youth unemployment, STOP Plastic Bottle Pollution and fight climate change.
More details about this project will be published on the 20th of June 2019.
