Clean Water

IMG_7630.JPG
We've been wanting a water filter to drink from. Way out here, waaaay off the beaten path, we have city water. Don't ask me how. But, it smells like a chlorine pool. We got a Brita, but we still weren't satisfied with what we weren't filtering out. SD Buillon was running a special on their Berkey water filters. We got the 2.25 gallon with extra fluoride filters. That was the best price we've seen them. So, we took the plunge.

Why Berkey?
This is from their website:

♛ Berkey Works Better Than Any Gravity Filters Available!

Berkey filters produce the most Healthful Drinking Water available. Berkey Water Filter can remove hundreds of contaminants such as viruses, bacteria, cysts, parasites, pesticides, chlorine, fluoride, VOC's and more from the water and purify more than any other gravity filters available! (see the complete list of contaminants Berkey can remove).

♛ Berkey Makes Your Water Taste Delicious

Berkey Water Filter makes your water taste much better by filtering out all of the toxics but leaving the minerals in the water as it should be. You will notice a difference right away.

♛ Berkey For Emergency Preparedness

Berkey Water Filter is a great survival gear in emergency situations as it works without the need of electricity and be able to purify raw, untreated water from remote lakes and streams.

♛ Berkey Saves Your Money

Berkey Water Filter is the most economical water purification system available as you can purify water for about two cents per gallon and it will last for years.

♛ Berkey is Simple and Easy

Berkey Water Filter does not require to be connected to your home plumbing system. A complete standalone system that can be setup in less than 10 minutes without any tools.

So we did actually put it together in less than 10 minutes. After flushing and rinsing all the filters we attached them. Even I could do it. :)

The white filters are for fluoride. Then we set them inside. That was pretty simple.

And waited for a lovely glass of water with a little oil of course!

We have been using Berkey for years now and love it! We upgraded to the biggest one a year ago because we have a lot of guests and do a lot of canning and cooking. My only complaint is filling it all the time. We love the quality of the water!

We camped at @mericanhomestead last fall and brought it with us to filter the rain water. It was fantastic!

Good to hear! I'm glad you have had it a while and are still loving it. I'm still figuring out where I want it. Not too far from the sink I guess!

Did you celebrate sukkot there?

Yes, we were there for Sukkot. Hoping to go back this fall as well. I wrote several posts back in October about our trip. It was amazing! Only about a 9 hour drive from our house in Central Kentucky, which was nice. There were families that came from California and Canada though, amongst other places. I didn't envy their drive. :)

We are in central KY! Whereabouts are you...if you don't feel comfortable saying, no worries!

I won't post my exact town on here, but we are in the Elizabethtown area.

We are East of Lexington. We are a couple hours from Elizabethtown. That's great. Lots of water last night the creek is flooded.

Small world! I venture over to Lawrenceburg regularly to see my midwives, which is about an hour and a half from us. We also venture to Danville several times a year for Shabbat.

2 different types of filters? Interesting. I have the Alexapure for our family. I guess idk if it’s as good as the Berkey, but I figure something is better than nothing.

It has 4 filters. 2 fluoride and 2 filters it comes with. Something is absolutely better than nothing! The Brita wasn't big enough. I felt like I was filling it up 100 times a day.

Good buy, Every home needs one of these.

It was expensive, but we drink so much water!

Alexapure makes a decent product too. Whatever I can do to get the fluoride out.

I invested in the 3 gallon Berkey with the additional filters as well. I used to haul gallon glass jars to the local health store to get water. It got to such a pain to haul that many jars. I do remember though that there was a "taste" for a little while but that did go away, or maybe I got used to it :-) Either way I'm glad I don't have to haul jars anymore, oh and I also noticed that it does not get out all of the minerals because if the water dries up on something it does leave a film behind.

That's good. We want the minerals! It tastes so good to me. And it's definitely going to save money in the long run. Buying water is such a pain.

Yes it has been saving me some money and time and effort! The strong taste did go away and now it is pleasant to drink! I really should look into which minerals are getting through.

We love our Berkey, it's been a wonderful investment. The filters last a long time and it holds a lot of water so if you are doing things like canning or fermenting and need good purified water it's perfect.

Glad to hear another satisfied review! Sometimes I lose all water pressure when the cows are drinking, so I will have water on hand all the time too!

Beautiful big Berkey. We have the Berkey light and we use it every day. The upper chamber of our Berkey smells strongly like chlorine, so we know we're filtering out a lot of chemical. To think we would otherwise be drinking that! @ironshield

Ours smells the same. When I took that first drink I was impressed! That one looks cool!

We just got one of these with the added fluoride filters at my house too and absolutely love it! It definitely beats paying every week to refill our five gallon jugs with reverse osmosis filtered water from the store. I am a huge fan of this filter and am so impressed with the simplicity and quality of it. I want to try filtering our cave spring water soon too.

Awesome! I'm so glad to hear the positive reviews. We were buying jugs from the store too and it's so annoying when you run out!

Could not live without our water filter! We have an Alexapure.
