Season 6 Week 4 - Internet of Things and the Blockchain

Hello, to all all my friends and I wish all are good here, now we are moving to the Week 4 of Season 6 and this time the topic Internet of Things and the Blockchain is very unique again and I love that and it triggered me to participate in the contest. And by this I can share my knowledge regarding the IOT as well as get some knowledge from other contestants too.

What is Internet of Things or IoT?

According to me, the Internet of Things (IoT) is the networking world of artificial objects such as vehicles, devices, and buildings which are embedded with software, electronics, sensors, and network connectivity to collect and exchange data,

In practise, IoT refers to the installation of micro-sensors and controllers on objects to make them'smart, ' allowing everyday devices to communicate and share data with a network. Everything in our natural and unnatural world that can generate data is considered IoT: nanotechnology in human tissue, smart parking metres, RFID devices, smart homes, drones, smart watches, smart cars, health monitors, and sensors for every industrial application on the planet.

What impact does the blockchain have on the Internet of Things?

According to Mckinsey - a buisness advising and counselling company, in upcoming years we will see over 43 billions of devices will use Iot and it is amazing but along with it we may face some problems regarding reliability, speed, security and validity of transactions.

We can't fill much as we use devices with the current technology much but if we see around the Web then we will found that the blockchain already impacted IoT a lot.

Blockchain, is also a new and advanced technology backed by cryptography and secured ledger and it can act as a more secure and fast storage for the IoT devices.

As the technology improve by time we will see billions of devices connected in few years, this system's scalability will be severely limited. As a result, it will expose billions of security flaws. Not only that, but using third parties to check the data will be both expensive and time consuming.

The blockchain data cannot be changed, but it can be verified and traced with any computer, laptop or other connected devices.

What benefits does blockchain offer to the Internet of Things?

However, blockchain networks can improve it in multiple way. For instance, blockchain have the system of smart contracts which can allow devices to work more anonymously and securely by establishing contracts which can only be executed with the exact criterias used in the contract.

Furthermore centralised networks are vulnerable and can fall by the mistake of a single point, which can broke and shut the entire system. It is a thing of concern with IoTs and which frequently hampering its large-scale development. DDoS attacks are possible on Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Usr Multiple compromised or less secured computers can be responsible and attack the main central server with a large number of simultaneous data request, As a result, any users of the targeted system will experience a denial of service. But the decentralised network of blockchains reduces risks as millions of node are involved in transferring data from peer-to-peer (P2P), which will allow the IoT system to run smoothly in case of failures.

Explaining Two applications of IoT and blockchain

Well, in future we will saw many options where the both extraordinary technologies will work together but for now we have some companies who are already using it with their applications.

  • Telstra, an Australian telecommunications company, has implemented blockchain IoT. They used blockchain in conjunction with IoT to develop a smart home system which will totally adopt blockchain system for all the functions except the collection of some data including biometric and face recognition.

  • Another industry where both IoT and Blockchain will be used together is healthcare. And Clinitraq, is a healthcare company, who developed a dosimeter that makes use of the NetObjex IoT-Blockchain Platform.

  • The Dosimeter is basically a wearable device which scans the radiation level of the individual. "Normal" dosimeters can take up to 60 days to reflect the result; but with blockchain, the data can be provided in real-time. While this may it looks like a technology coming from sci-fi world but actually it helps the people who works in healthcare or scientific division by eliminating risks during experimentation.

Blockchain Projects That Relates to IoT

Well, there are many projects which are working on it but the most popular Iotex.io and Helium

  • IOTEX.IO is a decentralised platform that allows developers, businesses, and smart device manufacturers to create data-monetizing applications (dApps). and to enable secure data sharing, authentication, and payments between devices, the platform employs blockchain technology, chain-agnostic developer tools, and smart contracts.

  • Helium is a decentralised WiFi network for smart devices and machines connected to the Internet of Things (IoT). And it's network is connected by devices owned by a universal user community.

  • Helium tokens are mined by users in the Helium network by expanding the decentralised WiFi network with Helium hot spots, which are antennas that can transmit small amounts of data over long distances using radio frequencies.

Conclusion

Of course, the examples above are just a few of the out of a huge number of devices which are currently under development. Both Blockchain and IoT are relatively new technologies with rapidly expanding applications and capabilities. After explaining the topic I can now say that the IoT is like an individual which wants a safe, secure and private path and the Blockchain is that path, and by combining the both the humanity will see it's new future.

I want to invite my friend @frafiomatale, @aaru and @chiabertrand to participate in the contest.

🙏🏻THANK YOU🙏🏻

The weight is reduced because of the lack of Voting Power. If you vote for me as a witness, you can get my little vote.

Helium tokens are mined by users in the Helium network by expanding the decentralised WiFi network with Helium hot spots, which are antennas that can transmit small amounts of data over long distances using radio frequencies.

I like this concept and idea. I too try to setup mining equipment, but at present the rewards are minimal compared to the cost, so I give up on this plan.

I am very late on finding this mining opportunity; let it be.

Nice explanation from you. Best of luck, my friend.

Thank you so much for that precious reply.

Its my pleasure

You have done justice to this topic dear friend, and I love your presentation.

The Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain technology have created an unprecedented symbiotic relationship in recent years. IoT refers to the network of physical objects that have been embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purposethe of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet.

Thanks for sharing, and goodluck in this contest.

Good explanation
My understanding is a bit open about IoT. Good luck for the contest

You wrote good points in your post about the topic.

For instance, blockchain have the system of smart contracts which can allow devices to work more anonymously and securely by establishing contracts which can only be executed with the exact criterias used in the contract.

This is something I also wrote about in my post, with block chain data stored on IoT devices would be secure and becomes very hard or impossible for outsiders to hack in to steal or manipulate your information. Blockchain will add more value to IoT and I wish you the best in this contest.

Thank you for your words.

Blockchain and IoT are two advanced technologies that will greatly facilitate all human activities, speed up the process and save costs and time.
And helium is one of the most in-demand projects...
Success for you... 👍

Thank you my friend.
