Cats come in many shapes and sizes but some of the most defining characteristics will come from the type of fur a cat maintains. Semi-Long haired cats are longer than the shorthair but considerably shorter than the longhair breeds. They will shed considerably less hair in comparison to the longhaired relatives and the hair left around the house will be manageable if a regular grooming regime is put into place. If a grooming regime is ignored, build up of fur can occur and can quickly spiral out of control if left unattended. Helping with grooming will help with both hygiene and aesthetic improvement and is a much needed essential for all cats, regardless of fur type. There I a very interesting breed of cat named the Javanese/Balinese which closely resembles a Siamese cat. Some novice breeders and new adopters may even mistake the identity of these cats altogether but close attention to the length of fur is essential when deducing the breed of cat. While the fur coat and many of the facial features of the Javanese cat is akin to the Siamese, there are fundamental differences in its behaviour, stature and coat attributes that make the Java an officially recognised breed of cat altogether.

The Javanese cat is a semi-long hair cat that is known for its relatively shorter yet medium coat. This can be said to be one of the shortest coat lengths in the respected category as it is still too long to be classed as a shorthair yet too short to be known as a longhair. It will also seem visibly thinner as there is no undercoat. If we compare this to the Maine Coon and Norwegian forest families, this is another example of cats adapting to their environments. The Javanese Islands are known for their warmer climates and of course blazing hot summers, it is no surprise that the Balinese cat will exhibit a comparatively shorter coat to keep heat dissipation at a maximum.

The eyes of the Balinese cat are very distinct and can be said to be almost slanted or egg shaped. This piercing gaze also reflects their personality as the Balinese is known to be a most intelligent and observant cat that will probe its surroundings with great anticipation. Owners who enjoy keeping semi-long hair cats will be able to maintain the coat of the Javanese cat with much ease due to its shorter coat.
