Posting Basics for Beginners

in #steemit8 years ago

My internet is running slow so I thought I would stick with something simple. As such, here is a follow up to some comments on my introduction. These are some handy links for beginners new to both Steemit and blogging. Also included are some tips that I've picked up from some hard learned lessons. I would certainly love input from others who can share other means for helping folks to improve their posts. Thanks and enjoy!

Great for inserting links into text posts as well as formatting text.

The site will provide you the links you need to post pictures though all you really need to use is the direct link. Check the preview to ensure your picture posted successfully. Simply register with an email and upload your photos. It would be helpful for you to make folders for each post both on the site and on your computer in order to better manage your photos.

Pretty basic. Just like Facebook or other social media sites, simply copy and paste the link.

Tips

Do not down vote opinions you disagree with. Down voting should be reserved for spam and bots. Down voting spam and bots will diminish their ability to impact people negatively. Bots have also been used as a lazy means to curate in the comments. This is a great feature when used responsibly. If you disagree with an opinion, simply say so in the comments or ignore someone altogether.

I made a post once on another account that I am no longer using that I royally messed up on. Steemit would not let me edit or delete it. Perhaps that is just how bad I messed it up. Instead of asking around, I simply got impatient and flagged my own post to drive visibility to a re-posted and corrected version.

Because I was new, I could not remove my own down vote because I did not have enough Steem power to do so. If you mess up and cannot edit, simply add an additional comment to the new post indicating that you had previously posted but for "insert reason here" needed to re-post. This should help reduce the risk of getting down voted for plagiarism.

Don't fear the cheetah bot. I've seen some expression of concern from folks posting from blogs they own. The cheetah bot will not down vote you, it only serves to inform you, and others, that the same content exists elsewhere.

Reduce your chances of getting down voted by others by noting that you own the blog you are copying from and just wanted to share the content here. As a bonus it would also serve to possibly drive viewers to your blog as well.

Feel free to read my primer for additional tips for beginners.

Hope you had a great weekend!

This right here, should be on the sign up page.

Right on. I've see some users lose big bucks because of such misuse.
