Why People Rewatch a Show

• You were confused by some parts, so you rewatch it in hopes of getting it the second time

Maybe you weren’t paying enough attention. Maybe the presentation was too subtle to get it the first time. Or maybe the whole thing was bullshit and it wasn’t your fault that you didn’t get it.

• You liked it so much, you want to experience it again

Which is stupid; because you can never experience the exact same thing twice. Every time you try to relive something, it will always be different. You will be prepared for everything you weren’t the first time. This reason is bullshit. On the other hand…

• To see it from a different perspective

It can make you feel and think in completely different ways, which leads to a whole new experience. Especially when you rewatch it with friends, the result is chaotic but still different because of their contribution. Which by the way it’s something I never do, because I have nobody to rewatch shows with. So alone…

• To see it unaffected by external influences

The opposite also stands true. If the first time your opinion of a show was affected a lot because of the hype and popularity it got while it was airing, then your opinion will most likely be very different once the hype dies out.

• To remember it

It was a long time ago and you barely remember what was going on in it. So, out of pure curiosity you do it to refresh your memory. Which usually goes hand in hand with…

• Nostalgia for something you watched a long time ago

Ah yes, revisiting shows you loved a lot as a kid and have such fond memories of them. Too bad the animation always looks worse than you remembered it. And the whole thing is not as good as you thought either, because you only remember a few highlights, and forget all the rest. This reason is depressing.

• To see the foreshadowing

You know, hints in early episodes, that prepare you for something that will happen later on. Just verifying why something is not an asspulled explanation, thrown in the story after the event is over.

• There is nothing that interests you from the newer shows, so instead of watching something you don’t fancy for the first time, you watch something you liked for the second

Something which is kinda weird. Are you really telling me you have no backlog? Nothing that is already over but you didn’t watch yet? Are you sure you are not simply lazy and unwilling to look for other stuff, you filthy casual?
