She was standing at the roadside by dawn. Cold from the size of her tight red skirt and a fitting black top. She was too hungry to rely on her belly for warmth and couldn't afford to eat having survived the entire night on a 300ml coke. It was simply a long unproductive night.
Her mind drifted for a minute to why she was working so hard to try and sell her own body. Hot tears stung her eyes and as there was need to maintain the hardcore mask, she fought them back.
A drunk driver missed a post near where she was standing and brought her back to her then current predicament. She needed to get home before her children woke up and figure out what they'd have for breakfast now that no man looked her way the entire night but she didn't have fare.
Before that thought left her mind, a red Subaru halted at her cheap heels. The passenger's seat flew open and a bald bearded giant smiled hungrily at her and quoted an amount she couldn't say no to.
She got in and quickly thanked herself for it because of the warmth oozing inside the car.
His left hand crept over her bare thigh and the cold her skin had absorbed betrayed her desperation. He figured out that it was a long night for her.
She knew he would use it to his advantage and probably slash the amount once he was done with her but she was looking for the means to go back home and even a single dollar was enough. She didn't care what he did to her if he would just give her a dollar.
She fringed at the thought of what he was capable of doing to her now that she had agreed to get into his car. His hand quickly left her thigh and his mood shifted instantly.
He asked if she had children and how old they were. He also wanted to know if they went to school and how she supported them.
She found herself telling him the truth. Balancing tears while doing it but still doing it.
After listening to her while driving around for 20 or so minutes, he pulled over at a bus stop. She looked around and wondered how they will handle their business as the dark had already given in to the early morning light.
But he just reached for something on his dashboard and whipped a few cash notes out and handed them to her. Without counting, she stuffed them in her pocket and awaited for his demands.
But he then reached out to open her door and told her to go find herself something better to do with herself as she didn't belong in the streets. And it was then that the tears that she had been holding on to defied her and found their way to her now warmer cheeks.
