SHTF Tip# 4- Guns...Help Them Help you!!!
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen! After yesterdays strange interaction with the Steemit Bandwidth Monster; I have decided to post and say "Whatevs!" Lol.
So today I would like to go ahead and talk about Gun accessories that may be very helpful in a SHTF scenario! Now there are literally millions of accessories for tons of different firearms, so I'm not going to list all of them! Ammo, magazines and the gun itself are obvious items, so I will skip those in this post! : ) I will give you a few that I think may be very helpful in this instance! So lets go ahead and break into this bad boy!
Item 1
I will go ahead and list in my opinion what I think is the most important item to have for a firearm! This would be a cleaning kit! If you keep her clean and maintained; she will appreciate you so much more! There are literally thousands upon thousands of different types of gun cleaning kits out there! So you may find it easier to build your own with what you like or buy a pre made one! There is definitely no shame in buying a pre made kit! I have several kits that I have sort of combined together to make a super kit! Lol. My main chunk of my kit is an Otis Universal cleaning kit! I like Otis due to it's versatility and plus the company is a NY company right near where I grew up; So I have to show some support! But you don't even have to go as far as building a huge kit! Something simple and compact for you specific calibers of firearms is really all that you need.
Item 2
Another crucial item for you firearm is something they you may not think of off the top of your head! The Operator/Maintainer's Manual. Not everyone has been working on guns for 9 years like myself! This is not a putdown at all either! There is no shame in saying you don't know! There are still many guns that I have never touched! Knowing the principles and inner workings is a big part of tearing down your weapons! So when YouTube no longer exists having a good ol' paper manual is a great addition to you arsenal of knowledge material! Knowledge is power!!
Item 3
So now you have your manuals and you know how to tear that puppy down! So the next item you should have is a spare parts kit! This would be a kit filled with small springs pins and other parts that may be a necessity to you specific firearms! When small parts break the gun not go bang sometimes. This could be catastrophic to you existence in TEOTWAWKI. So it would pay to do a little research and find the little parts that you may see break often and throw them in a Ziploc or a small parts box! : )
Item 4
So we have everything to clean, tear down and fix our firearms. What could we possibly need after that? I would personally suggest a way to transport ammo either on your person or in a pack that would prevent the ammo from gathering too much moisture. Now depending on the circumstance; you may just want to throw your mags into a magazine pouch. This would be good for if your were going out on a mission of some sort. But, for long term storage I would suggest taking an ammo can and throwing a few Silica Gel Packets in there to soak up moisture and prevent damage to that sweet apocalyptic gold! You might even find that a Ziploc with some of the Silica Packets will also do you some justice. Just make sure it is properly sealed.
Item 5
This I would not consider a necessity, but a nice to have item. Some sort of optical equipment for your firearm. If it is a handgun, I would say not so much! But a shotgun, crossbow or rifle's capabilities could be nicely improved with some sort of optic/scope in case you have to reach out and touch something... or someone. There are so many different optics for firearms. It would be a good idea to do your research and find the one that best suits your needs/wants. And also make sure you keep the manual for it so you have it if you need it! : )
Item 6
I will make this one my final item for the sake of keeping this under "Novel Status." Lol. Some sort of retention system for you firearm would also be a great thing to have! Now I am sure that most of the gun owners out there already have this! But if not, this is a great investment! So for a handgun you would want a good solid holster (possibly concealed or with a nice retention for open carry). For rifles and shotguns you may want a good and comfortable sling for those long travels you might find yourself enduring! There is also something for your more tactical rifle set up called a retention catch. Basically, this is a hook, lanyard or Velcro strap designed to be placed on your gear. This will help to retain your rifle while it is still slung on your body so that you can still draw down on something or someone if need be. But in the meantime this will keep the rifle on your person and stop it from rattling around when you're on the move!
Well everybody...This is what I believe to be in my top 6 for firearms equipment in TEOTWAWKI, SHTF or WROL! If you guys have any favorite firearms items that you would like to share; please do not hesitate! : ) I hope that you all found this information useful enough to throw in the brain toolbox for future endeavors! Remember if you treat her (your gun) good she will return the favor! I hope everybody has a wonderful day...or night! And stay prepared! : )
TEOTWAWKI- The End Of The World As We Know It

Semper Fidelis
TEOTWAWKI Man
I have made it a habit to check in on you each time I log in and I'm glad I did because you were supposed to be powering up. LoL. I like this post man! As always, safety first so I recommend some way to secure them unless zombies are groaning at the front door. LoL.

Yea I decided to just go for it man! I just have to watch my upvoting a little bit! Usually I go a little crazy with the upvoting when I talk to people that actually converse with me. Lol. But yes that is a good one as well I have a safe and I hope that all gun owners do as well! But thank you brother. I appreciate you checking in on me! : )
I had to get over the difference between the "like" button on another platform and the "upvote" button on this one. It's a tough habit to break. LoL.
Haha yea me too man! every video I make I almost say like instead of upvote. Lol. It's tough to keep that one in the back of my mind.
P.S. Those zombies better hope they don't pick my house! Lol
Haha. Same here. LoL.
Whaaa? I'll just connect my computer to wall holes and YouTube will still be there. Its the Internet, it never dies!
Hahaha. Ah yes I forgot about the invincible internet. Lol
Bahahahaha!
Great list! I need to get spare parts for my handgun.
Its always good to have spare parts laying around. 😀
True! I don't know why I never thought about spare parts for my main gun. Duh! Lol!
Well I work on guns for a living so I have spare gun parts laying around because I work own own stuff too. But I figured I'd share that one. Cuz if it really is TEOTWAWKI then gun parts might be a little scarce.
Such a smart feller! Heehee!
Sometimes! Lol
Lol! Well I haven't seen any not-so-smart moments yet.
Lol. Well thank you very much. : )
Some great info here for people just starting to get into firearms. It is surprising how many folks don't know how to break down, clean and reassemble their firearm. Learn it now folks!
Proper ammo storage is vital for a long life of your barter gold, especially if you live in a humid environment like Florida.
As an addition to your optics suggestion, I would suggest adding night sights to your handgun, especially if it's your EDC. That small advantage could mean vital seconds gained when trying to line up your sights.
Keep up the good work @teotwawkiman!
Thanks brother! Great addition my friend! But yes is is pretty crazy how many people don't know how to break down their own firearm! It is definitely a good piece of knowledge to invest your time in! I am OCD about my guns being clean. Haha! But thank you so much brother!
You have no idea how many gun owners I've met at the range who don't clean their guns or know how. SMH.
Oh believe me. I know. Lol. I have been an armorer in the military and as a civilian for almost 9 years. The gunk that you find on some people's issued weapons that could potentially be their lifeline! It truly does amaze me! : ( And that's just the military guys! I don't even want to think about people who paid for their own guns to just mess them up. Craziness. Lol.
It's so silly! And scary if you really think about it.
Definitely so. It's like buying a fresh and hot pizza and throwing out the window of a moving vehicle. Lol. Buy a gun and treat it like crap. Makes sense. Haha.
Great analogy haha so true! Your life and loved ones as well, can very well can depend on your gun. Maintenance is the key for everything!
Exactly! You never know when going to need to rely on your gun. So keeping her cleaned and lubed is the least you can do. : )
